I was wondering, how does the powder differs from glow in the dark tatoo, in term of brightness, durability and so on ? And would it be fiesable and/or beneficial to dilute the powder in tatoo ink medium to simply tatoo it ? Would that differ from glow in the dark tatoos ?
Itâs probably way brighter since youâre stuffing a whole bunch in there.
It probably also lasts a lot longer, afaik tattoos fade because the particles are small enough to be broken down over time?
Some people over on the discord are working on making an ink out of it but it doesnât stay in solution very well.
A gel is also an idea weâre working on.

My UV tattoos always faded in less than a year, and they only glow when actively exposed to UV light.
Strontium aluminate is phosphorescent, so it needs to be charged first and then glows on its own.
The brightness really depends on how much of it youâre able to get under the skin.
Itâs hard to compare it to UV tattoos since their brightness depends on the intensity of the UV source and other factors.
If youâre able to work in a good amount of powder, it will be nicely bright and visible. If you apply it over a large enough surface area, you might even be able to read a book with it in complete darkness for a few minutes after charging.

I have a tattooer that would try this out with me so we can see how well it glows if this is more of an assumption.
I saw the site comes with 6 packs of 2.5g powder. Iâm not sure how much is expected to be used to cover a certain area.
I was thinking of doing something with white ink (since it tends to fade faster), which would leave the powder in its place, but donât know how much powder to mix into the ink cap.
We can test this out if needed, but, as an example, the glowing wristband video in this thread, was that using all of the powder?
Probably 3 or 4 (should check with Merlin).
We pack it in 6 so you can use some while keeping the rest sterile.

Okay, if that was through âcut and addâ then I think mixing a third of that with white ink would give the same result.

Iâm leaning toward a small lightning bolt, something I know I can handle doing myself.

Not sure, my guess is no or very little but Iâm not the best person to answer that.
The thing is even if a fraction of the particles were compromised they would just be broken down by the body over time. Theyâre not toxic and the quantity of material would be so little that you wouldnât notice anything.
the powder we use is coated in silica (using something like the stöber process), which makes it super abrasive . it is way harder than your average steel tattoo needle
so if youâre using a machine, the needle gets eaten fast
like you will need to swap it after a few seconds maybe. it just gets worn down from all the friction with the powder
i tried stick and poke, and that was fine. slower, yeah but the wear on the needle wasnât really an issue. with a machine though, itâs probably gonna suck unless youâre okay burning through a lot of needles
donât think the needle breaks the particles or anything
but the particles break the needle!
on the safety side
thereâs not much research on what happens if this stuff breaks down under the skin. if it does, it should just become aluminum oxide and strontium oxide , which are both considered not like super toxic in the amounts we are talking about - the amount that stays in the skin isnât a whole lot and it shouldnât really have an impact even if all of it breaks down (which is not happening because of the super hard silica coating). but the powder might have some manufacturing related impurities too â itâs not a medicine product and not so closely monitored. so there are always some unknowns
for me itâs 100% worth the risk, though i prefer the cutting method for getting it under the skin

Can one of you take a photo of your âglowstone markâ from having been in a well lit room or possibly normal/cloudy daylight into a poorly lit room (not fully dark)?
My assumption here is that the product photos were taken after having been charged with a UV flashlight, but I want to be aware of how bright this might be day-to-day roaming the office complex.
