Coil on Module (CoM) Payment Conversion

Finally got myself a COM card!
Any update on the COM conversions?

I’ve got some antenna modules from @Satur9 and I’ve five a conversion test but I’m still a bit behind on standardizing the conversion process for them. For now if you’re interested you can remove the module yourself from the card and purchase a conversion service… I’ll convert it.

Thank you for the update! I’m using it daily at the moment, I’ll check back in a month when or two if there’s no update.

Shitty picture, but @Trefor shared that some Cash app cards are CoM

Just got a SoFi debit and it looks to be CoM as well, but a bit different than the others? I need it for another 7-9 days, after that I can try dissolving it.

Hmm yeah, I don’t think it’s CoM. It kinda looks like there’s antenna windings on the right and left side so I see what you mean, but there’s none on the top and bottom. Plus it would have to be 4 layer to route the antenna back which is just not economical, and those big visible copper planes on the right and left would interfere with the CoM coupling. I think those lines on the right and left are there for thermal relief to allow the chip to be spot welded to the antenna without presenting a huge thermal mass.

You can definitely melt it down though if you want to know for sure.

Gotcha. I didn’t see the contact points like the other chips have, but I saw the circular antenna and got my hopes up. Weird that they’re using 3 antennas on it.

It’s likely all one antenna, but the windings are routed at different positions to improve the coupling with the reader when the user presents the card in non ideal orientations, and to fine tune the Inductance

Booo
Was hoping to send it off soon.
Thanks for the info!

Something interesting. Could just be a coincidence, but I recently downgraded from the Amex Delta Skymiles Reserve to the Amex Delta Skymiles Gold (Reserve used to be worth it for me, but it’s now unnecessary expensive, and Delta’s flights are so high now compared to post covid - I was getting First Class seats for around $400! Not too shabby, but now I’ve switched to Southwest).

Anyways…

My old card was metal, and appears to be a CoM. The new card is plastic and appears to not be a CoM. Just figured I’d mention. I’m curious if other metal credit cards are CoM just cause they are thicker. :man_shrugging:t2:

Purple one is definitely CoM. It’s probably just because it’s newer and they’re using those now

I have the Symiles platinum in metal and it is not CoM. It was manufactured last year I think.
