Methodology

Guess what? We used paperclips for the initial round of testing. Uncoated. 50mm in length @ ~1.03g/ea. The magnet was stuck to the underside of a mild steel rail and one paperclip stuck to the magnet with the rest hanging from that paperclip. For larger weights (re: xG3 v2, m08s, and m1148a), I circled back and used hanging weights. But even that wasn’t enough for the m1148a. Failure occurred when either the magnet detaches from the rail or the paperclip from the magnet. Due to asymmetries in manufacturing, this testing yields us the lowest breakaway under ideal (direct contact) conditions. Performance in vivo will be less and highly variable due to the nature of installation.

From Retirement:

These are no longer available for one reason or another.

m31: >99

This true force in biomagnets is no longer available because its TiN coating failed within a year. I think we’ll let the ultimate lift strength be a mystery as the m31 passes back into the ether.

Titan: 72

The Titan, the first and only purpose built Ti sensing magnet, is no longer available due to the cold, hard realities of capitalism: it’s just not feasible for manufacturers to take on such small batch, high labor projects since the pandemic.

xG3 v1: 18

The original injectable biomagnet, the xG3 v1 was retired when it was discovered that its axial magnetization drew things directly into a weakness on par with the Death Stars: its weak end caps–the Achilles heel of the glass process. This resulted in enough failures for Amal to take it off the market.
