Difference between Apex Flex versions

performance, pure and simple. the module was designed with the goal of eventually getting it EMV L1 certified for terminal performance compliance.

performance is not just range, it’s offset and orientation as well. the EMV L1 test is;

  • 2cm distance (z-axis), dead center
  • 2cm z-axis, 2cm x-axis off center
  • 2cm z-axis, 2cm y-axis off center
  • 2cm z-axis, 2cm y-axis 2cm x-axis off center

What the EMV test does not include is rotational orientation. The narrow definitely requires finding the sweet spot and presenting in the proper rotational orientation to align the antenna with the long shape of the narrow antenna. The module requires far less concern about rotational orientation as well as far less sensitivity to the offset.

in short, “performance” = “how easy is it to just tap it with minimal concern about placement and orientation?”

in contrast, the narrow requires a lot of consideration vs the module.
