If you are looking as far as Philly, I feel like @Satur9’s could offer some assistance/ input here
Not directly in the medical field but some of my closest friends are first-aid trained and some even use needles regularly afaik, I think that would work! Still need to get anesthetic though because even though the mental issue exists I STILL have low pain tolerance
Feels like I’ll need it haha - thanks for all the info!
I wouldn’t put too much effort onto this. If you can lay your head down and relax, it should only be about 10-20 seconds, and you’ll forget the pain by the time you can get an NDEF record in.
Agreed… it’s about as painful to get the anesthetic injected as the implant. Ultimately it’s about as painful as getting a blood draw, but I couldn’t do a blood draw on myself… but someone else doing it makes it easy to ignore the pain for the few seconds it’s happening.
Fair, guess I’ll just be giving it a try without then! Gonna order a new one in an hour or two + a proxmark or something for good measure ^^
My thought process behind getting anesthetic was if I was gonna do it myself, I’ve already dealt with smaller needles so that won’t hurt as much, but I guess you’re right, they’re both just needles lol
A smaller needle definitely hurts less, but I have always found that injecting anesthetic burns before it numbs. Sometimes that burning can be quite painful.
Back in September I had a bad fall which left me with a a laceration on my chin (+ a condylar fracture in my jaw, couldnt eat solid foods for 6 weeks… first thing i ate was a burger lol) & I had to get 12 stitches - I remember they used 1% lidocaine (w/ epi) and it didn’t burn for me, weird. I remember they had to use quite a bit too, idk if its something with epi though.
Also don’t know if its a good idea to mention this but Von Willebrand’s does run in my family so maybe that has something to do with pain / anesthetic?
Just wanted to add that (personally of course) as soon as the needle was out in all of my installs, there was basically no lingering pain. It really was limited to 15-20 seconds
Sounds like i’ll just have to bite the bullet then haha
You’ll be fine
just head down until its over and have a drink with sugar near by in case you feel a little faint
Pocari sweat it is! Morbid curiosity dictates I kinda wanna peek at it though lol
I totally get this. My advice is go with a friend to the install and have them film it
I feel like a dumbass for attempting to film my own self-install after it failed lmfao, but yeah I’ll do that - unless I end up going to a friend to do it, in which case we can just prop up a phone
This was not the case for 2 of my 3 installs, personal experience.
Speaking of lingering pain though - unsure if its just my brain being its usual overactive self but it felt like I had a “phantom sense” implant after my failed one, at least I know it’s just my brain and not “vOoDoO mAgIc” like a bunch of people that get pointed to That One Thread
I had some soreness of course.
How bad was your pain during and immediately after?
Interesting. Probably just your brain trying to make sure the area was ok
possible you were still in a bit of shock when they injected… or the pain of the laceration was far more than the pain of the lidocaine
Whole thing didn’t really hurt a LOT honestly, a lot of dull pain, so the sharp pain stood out - what really hurt was my jaw anyways, and that was mostly just locked into place anyways, I don’t think I went into shock at all afaik
But definitely possible the pain couldve been shadowed by other pain / reduced by the LET (Lidocaine/Epinephrine/Tetracaine) they plastered on there for an hour or two prior
