Module may be tricky, but it looks like P4 might be an option for you without cutting through your tattoo.
(Below and between pinky and ring finger)
Maybe also P1.
Your piercer will be your best person to confirm these.
For an ApexFlex, you still have plenty of “white space” to choose your install site from, you only need ~5mm x 3mm, and the insertion site will dictate the final position of the implant.
P1 - P4 all look “doable”
You will obviously have a small scar left but it will fade over time.
I think I’m leaning towards this honestly, my hands are pretty small and skinny, this seems to have the most meat on it so I don’t constantly feel it pulling the skin tight whenever I close my fist whilst still having a tattoo-safe insertion point if the piercer comes in from between my fingers and then in towards the mass of my hand. Gonna go have a chat with him today and see what he thinks. Excited nontheless, it’s been a hot minute!
Love the tat. For an implant the size of the module on the hand it’s really not wise to enter from the knuckle side. Not only is skin on that side tighter and tougher from regular use, but you’d be pushing whatever dermal separation tool used to create the pocket into the hand against the normal branching flow of all the blood vessels and structures that go from the wrist outward.
If you wanted to avoid messing with your tattoo I would recommend starting from the wrist side and installing in P3. You’ve got a convenient break in the art there. In my experience a flex in P3 is actually a very safe spot. Most impacts either happen closer to P0 or closer to P4 on the knife edge where there’s lots of padding, and the natural slope of the hand due to the smaller metacarpals keeps it from taking direct hits. The module and CoM conversion are pretty sturdy.
If it helps, I’ve just had the module installed a week ago and it appears a similar position could possibly suit you with minimal impact on the tattoo-
Can ball my hand without any issues, could absolutely punch if needed. Not feeling any tightness
In saying that of course any installs in the hands have concerns of longevity and the “accidents” that could occur to damage them But very happy with this location and the reactions when paying are priceless every time
I am reconsidering maybe just keeping it as a secondary backup. (I will reply to the email if I want to return it. I’ll try to decide within the next 24-48 hours.) It doesn’t arrive until next Monday anyway, and I won’t be able to access it physically until next Friday.
I’m also having second thoughts on ordering the narrow and wondering if I should’ve gone with the module. I just don’t have anyone to help me install it. I can likely do it myself, the flex aren’t too bad. I imagine a scalpel and elevator can’t be that difficult.
Otherwise I will have to fly to DT headquarters and hope @tac0s or @amal will install it for me
I might be sending an email to that order instead if I can secure an installation.
Done!
I already have a narrow flexsecure in left wrist and apex flex in right wrist. They work decent for phone stuff, but I imagine the range of the module makes the UX more “buttery”.
OK,
So, I very recently just got the Apex Ring Conversion (Narrow) - Not installed yet.
But I am part wayvthrough writing up a review (Just some range testing to do, should be posted today)
Unfortunately, I dont have a module to compare it to.
My original Apex Narrow (Non conversion) worked absolutely amazing with my phone and even better with a Repeater Sticker, and fits perfectly in my P1 - L for easy tap with my phone in my right hand.
Do I wish I had grabbed a Module, yeah, maybe a little bit, because I know for a pay terminal a Module is going to be by far the best and most likely for a successful transaction.
Where I am fortunate is, When I had my original payment conversion on the older copper antenna, our Payment terminals in NZ seem to have good antennas, and I had no issues with them.
My hope is, the Apex Ring Conversion (Narrow) will perform the same, and my first test (still in packaging at a terminal) I got an easy read (video in the review).
I have decided i am going to a surgeon @sinicholson to get a few procedures, so a Module could have been an option.
So
1st regret was, not getting a Module
2nd Regret…Well you need to join the DT Club for that one (Sorry I cant tell you, but what I can say is, If I knew then what I know now, I would have got something “Better”)
