In what might be the weirdest thing released by Dangerous Things, I give you: MIDI Commander. A tool that will help you convert/create existing audio into MIDIs. Why? They fit on implants and with NDEF Commander you can now play music stored on implants. I suspect the first thing almost all of you will do is make a rick roll MIDI. Which was my benchmark during development.

## MIDI Commander
**Last Updated: September 2026**
## Overview
MIDI Commander (“the App”) is an application developed by Dangerous Things (“we”, “us”, or “our”) that turns audio into editable MIDI. It transcribes audio files into notes, can first separate a song into its vocal, bass and other parts, lets you edit the notes, and plays and exports the result as a MIDI file. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
**The short version:** Everything the App does happens on your device. Your audio, your MIDI files and your projects are never sent to us or to anyone else, and the App makes no internet requests of its own. The only thing that reaches us is that a visit to our website came from this App, and only when you choose to tap that link.
## Information We Collect
### Information Stored Locally (On Your Device Only)
The following data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to us:
- **Projects** - For each project: its name, the names of the files you imported and where they are on your device, the tracks and notes produced from them, your note edits, which tracks are switched on, and the quantization setting. Projects are saved automatically so they survive a restart.
- **Appearance Settings** - Your theme, colour-vision palette and animation speed.
- **Temporary Files** - Kept in the App’s private cache, and replaced by the App or cleared by Android as needed:
- a copy of each audio or MIDI file you import, made by Android’s file picker
- the separated vocal, bass and other audio while SEPARATE + TRANSCRIBE runs
- audio rendered so a composition can be played
- MIDI files prepared for saving, sharing or copying
A project keeps a link to your audio file rather than its own copy. If Android clears the file picker’s copy, the project still opens with all its tracks and edits, but that audio cannot be transcribed again until you import it once more.
We cannot access this data. It remains entirely on your device.
### How Your Audio Is Processed
Transcription and source separation run entirely on your device, using models built into the App: Spotify’s Basic Pitch turns audio into notes, and Open-Unmix separates a song into parts. Your audio is never uploaded for processing.
### Information Transmitted by the App
The App makes no internet requests of its own. It has no accounts and does not check for updates, and it contains no analytics, crash reporting or advertising.
**Things You Choose to Share** - Data leaves the App only when you direct it to:
- **SAVE .MID** saves a MIDI file to your device’s Downloads folder, under MIDI Commander, where you and any app with access to your downloads can open it.
- **SHARE .MID** hands a MIDI file to the app you pick in Android’s share sheet. What happens to it next is up to that app.
- **COPY BYTES** places a MIDI file on your clipboard so that another app, such as NDEF Commander, can paste it. Other apps on your device that can read the clipboard may be able to read it too.
- **SAVE RANGE** in the note editor works the same way for the part of a composition between two markers.
**Dangerous Things Website** - When you tap a link to our website, the URL includes UTM parameters (source, medium and campaign) that identify the visit as coming from this App and which link was tapped. This lets us measure how often the App sends visits to our website. No personal data, device identifiers, or account information is included in these parameters. The link opens in your browser, and the website’s own privacy policy applies from there.
### Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect location data
- We do not collect contacts, call logs, or messages
- We do not use your microphone
- We do not read your phone state or device identifiers
- We do not collect your audio, your MIDI files, or your projects
- We do not use third-party analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs
## How We Use Information
### Local Data
- When you use **IMPORT AUDIO** or **IMPORT MIDI**, or add a track, the App reads only the file you choose.
- Imported audio is decoded and analysed on your device to produce notes.
- Imported MIDI files are read on your device to produce tracks.
- Projects and appearance settings are saved so the App behaves the same after a restart.
## Data Storage and Security
### Local Storage
- Data is protected by Android’s application sandboxing
- Files you save to your Downloads folder, share with another app, or copy to the clipboard leave that protection, and are handled by wherever you send them
### Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties.
The only external communication is:
- **Things You Choose to Share** - Files you save, share or copy, described above.
- **Dangerous Things Website** - When you choose to visit our website.
## Data Retention
### Local Data
Projects and appearance settings remain on your device until you:
- Delete a project in the App (**PROJECTS**, then **DELETE**)
- Clear app data
- Uninstall the App
Temporary files are replaced by the App or cleared by Android. MIDI files you saved to your Downloads folder stay there until you delete them, including after the App is uninstalled.
## Your Rights
You have complete control over your data:
- **Access** - All your data is stored locally on your device and is visible in the App
- **Deletion** - Delete projects in the App, or remove everything by clearing app data or uninstalling the App
- **Control** - Nothing leaves your device unless you save, share or copy a file, or open our website
## Children’s Privacy
MIDI Commander is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
## Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:
- Updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy
- Posting the new policy on our website
Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
## Permissions Explained
MIDI Commander requests the following Android permissions:
| Permission | Purpose |
|—|—|
| Internet | Declared by the App’s framework and file library. The App makes no internet requests of its own; links to our website open in your browser |
| Storage (Android 12 and earlier only) | Declared by the App’s file library; the App reads only files you choose |
We do not request permissions for camera, microphone, contacts, location, or phone state.
