NTAG213 to NTAG216 compatibility issues (iPhone)

Hi all,

I’ve recently gotten my first install, the NExT v1, and whilst the 5577 is working pretty close to perfectly, for whatever reason, I can’t get the NFC side of the implant to work with the NXP apps on my iPhone 14 pro max. It’ll read, and I seem to be able to write things to it, but it doesn’t seem to be getting picked up by my phone without the apps open, whilst the original tags that I’m trying to clone work almost seamlessly.
I’ve also had consistent issues with the app either crashing when it tries to read or shortly after, refusing to read or write instead throwing up “write failed unknown error” or something similar, refusing to actually load what is “written” to the chip… when attempting “scan and launch” on the TagInfo app, it simply throws up a blank white screen and gets no further…

Is this a hardware issue, have I done something wrong, or is it just an incompatibility with the tags? I’ve double checked the size of what I’m trying to write to the chip, and it should fit, but it just… doesn’t seem to want to work?

Have I missed something? Am I losing it? Please send help

This COULD be the answer.

How recent?

Nope

Lets wait for your reply, but its likely you just need to wait a bit longer for your body to heal

You could try NFC Tools, but its Unlikey the issue is TagInfo / Tagwriter

hey, thanks for your response!

it’s been about two weeks now, which is the length of time the biohackers discord recommended, and whilst i know the healing is supposed to take roughly a month (give or take) i figured i’d try setting it up now, even just to figure out the tools and everything so that when it comes time to set up future chips, i know what i’m doing

it is in on a weird angle, due to how little available skin i have on my hand, but that doesn’t seem to be affecting the t5577 as far as i can tell? beyond just reading at a weird angle anyway

happy to answer any and all requests for more info

NORMALLY that’s about right, but 2 weeks is still pretty fresh, if you wait 2 more weeks, you should be good to go.

I phones aren’t the best at reading xSeries implants, and the fresh install is not going to help.

Yeah these problems sound like a coupling issue to me. When you have the app open it’s at full power trying to read the chip, and the errors you are getting are probably due to poor coupling. When the app is not open and actively trying to read the chip, background scanning mode is enabled which is even less power output so it’s very likely not picking up if you’re already having coupling problems while the app is trying to scan in full power mode.

what are you writing to the chip? not all NDEF records can be picked up via background scanning on ios and will require you to use an app.

have a read of this

so upon testing again this morning, i can occasionally get an inconsistent read on the top left corner without having to use the app, but it’s a bit of a hassle, and i’ll probably end up going with the sticker to try it out, hopefully other phones that try to read it aren’t going to have the same issue though

thanks for the resources, i’ll look into them!

hey there, so i’m trying to write a single link that’s already on an nfc business card i have, but am also hoping to have a plain text file with both contact and medical information, In Case of Emergency type stuff, like conditions, medications, stuff like that, because my flare ups can often cause me to become nonverbal due to the pain and this just seems like an easier option than writing it all out every time, you know?

Regardless I would have reccomended you get one, they are reall really good.

I do belive time will be your solution, but still grab yourself a sticker or 4 from MWG or the RSP from DT

a medical technician or member of the general public will not know to scan your implant in order to retrieve info, i suggest a medical ID bracelet or necklace.

plaintext records also cannot be parsed by IOS natively they require an app to read, so anyone who would read your implant to get that data, would need an android phone or a dedicated nfc reading app.

as for writing the link make sure you are touching the top edge of your phone to the implant perpendicular to it so it intersects the implant and makes a T shape, make sure the link is the only thing youre writing so its in slot 0

Also, I like SimplyNFC for iPhone.

It allows you to continuous scan which I feel was helpful for figuring out when the implant was healed enough to be useful, and figuring out ideal phone positioning.

yeah, my plan is to put the little card it came with into a slip that i hang around my neck, with info about where the chip is on the reverse, but you make valid points and i’ll look into it more

thanks for the tip, i’ll check it out!
