Show off your Homelab! šŸ§Ŗ

Damn dude. Nice snag!

My radio rack is a 9u from them. I love it, especially for the price. But yeah, FB is for in-person transactions only IMO.

Sheā€™s home.

I have this PDU that is just far too big for my rack but itā€™s pretty nice.

APC AP8831

If anyone has one that would fit my rack Iā€™d be open to trade

Nice rack

Sorry, not helping, but it felt like you were fishing for compliments

More fishing for someone who could benefit from this PDU

Did it have the power monitoring? If love to put that in my lab. Do you need monitoring or just a regular pdu?

It appears it does! I got it with the server so I havenā€™t used it.

I just want something that would fit with my 15u rack. Power monitoring would be nice.

Edit: added pictures

It looks a lot like the PDUs in the data center where I work. They have monitoring and outlet control, but it operates through a dedicated appliance. Not sure if they could operate standalone.

Hello friendly neighborhood datacenter tech lol. Where I work we use mostly AP8861s and AP8841s which have monitoring but no outlet control. Theyā€™re configurable with SNMP and we have software called Observium monitoring them, but lots of things support SNMP so almost anything should work.

The default creds are apc/apc via the RJ11 serial interface if you need to log in and reset the firmware.

For anyone that has Poweredge blades that always sound like they are going to blast off this script has worked wonders in controlling the noise.

After 3 days i finally have Idrac updated and proxmox setup. I feel like i am almost thereā€¦

I just got proxmox up today also. Spun up the 1st of 5 Kali purple vmā€™s. Smooth sailing so far. My fans arenā€™t crazy loud at all. Do you have a fan thatā€™s out? I know it should spin down after POST

idrac was out of date by like 4 years. It was so out of date i couldnt access from the web interface because its encryption was too poor. i had to use an old Windows 7 computer to log into it.

So i started doing incremental updates version by version to get it current. At version 2.20.20.20 fans all got pegged at 100%. Bios settings, idrac settings changing things around i could only ever get them as low as 50% ALL THE TIME.

googling said that there was a update dell made so that any third-party PCIE card when inserted, OR, any SSD that isnt Dell will force fans to 100%. The profile i posted i have running on Proxmox and it creates a fan curve based on CPU, Input Fan Temp, and Exhaust temp and scales the fans accordingly. It works perfectly but i put a TON of steps in place.

That sucks you have to do the upgrade path. I lucked out since the guy I picked up from had the latest available applied on most of them. Thatā€™s dope you got it going!

Work really kicked my ass this past month and i hadnt really had time to work too much on the homelab but after making like 200 cat6 cables and realizing my 20yr old cable tester had taken up the ghost and just always told me the cable was good i was able to invest in a better tester and made another 10-15 cables after pulling my hair out chasing gremlinsā€¦ its almost done. waiting on some deals on a good POE/managed switch. hoping someone unknowledgable dumps some ubiquiti switches in my lap but its looking good so farā€¦

I did however give away my old rack to another homelabber local to me and got the startech one i wanted!

Iā€™ve been scrounging and digging for a server cabinet for my 3D printer. Found 3 being auctioned together by a school district in Kansas, just too far for me. But, the high bid is 12.50 for 3 cabinets, and what looks like a switch in one of them. Good deal if youā€™re close enough.

In Hays Kansas.
There is a buyerā€™s premium. (a percent charge above the sales price that goes to the auctioneer.)
Auction is over in 21hrs, (I think Noon, Central time 1/9/24.)

Hey! I went to college there! Itā€™s actually not too far from where I live now. Maybe 3 hours or so. Iā€™d offer to go pick them up for you if I had a vehicle to do so.

My family is all south of Wichita. Itā€™s a 8-9 hour trip, plus another 3-4 to hays or Iā€™d be all over it.

I figure the two shorter cabinets could be 3D printer cases, and the 4ft tall one, would be going back to work as a server. Cause Iā€™ve got the ā€œmore equipmentā€ disease.

Never thought about a server cabinet as an enclosure, I like the idea!
Iā€™ve been looking for a small cabinet on craigslist. If i had the time, and the room for all 4 Iā€™d grab them. Would be a good excuse to see family out there lol

Things I have considered for a 3D enclosure.

1 Server Cabinet
2 Microwave Cabinet / Cart
3 Entertainment Center
4 Remember those glass front stereo cabinets from the 90ā€™s, where you pushed on them to open them. Yeah.
5 The ā€œArmoireā€ style tv cabinets from the early 2000ā€™s. Big Tvs in big chunky oak cabinets.
6 Newspaper vending machine.
7 Glass door refrigerators. Some nice mid size ones out there, but need to find a nonoperational one to keep price sane.
8 The shell of a toolbox chest with all the drawers removed and some glass doors added.
9 A whole variety of glass display cases and curio cabinets.
10 Custom 8020 aluminum frame with plexiglass sides.

There are about a million guides or there about how to use two IKEA Lack tables to make a printer enclosure. Apparently itā€™s one of the more popular options.
