Was a while ago when I took the pics, but hereās my IoT wall in my bus. (Internet of Turtles)
Iāve been messing with my Banana Pi R3 Mini and ended up frustrated with the antennas that were included with the caseā¦
Theyāre small dual band antennas. I assume monopole, and the case of the AP Iām using is metal⦠The gain of those is lower than a dipole, but the worst part was how those limited the speed of the connection.
Iām sure that the antennas are poorly put together and something is definitely off⦠Now Iām curious about the SWR, impedance, etcā¦
Iām going to try taking them apart, but Iām not expecting much from China⦠Also, I should get myself a VNA that can go up to 8GHz 6GHz or something along those lines.
Edit, the nanoVNA appears to be limited to 6GHz. Provided, Iām still kinda curious about the new 7GHz WiFi band.
Thatās the sort of homelab Iām looking to build in mine as well.
What sorts of things have you got it running?
You guys having problems roaming between mesh modes in ubiquit? Specifically wifi drops? I always did.. forever. Havenāt checked them out in years though.
The RPi is just running HomeAssistant (with a pile of addons).
iirc that was an issue. Iāve been using multiple of their APs for the last few years and itās been perfectly fine I think
Iāve been using Unifi APs since 2021 and transferring between mesh nodes has alway been seamless. Not use how long ago you guys were having the issue though.
It did take a while for the pass-off to work well. When mesh was first introduced it was certainly bad as vendors (both client and AP side) needed time to figure out the drivers. But your experience is very similar to mine.
