Okay so you definitely cannot do it one handed by trying to pinch it together. You definitely need a buddy.
All the mucking around trying to do it myself with one hand reopened the wound.

I’m starting to think that Tegaderm might be a better option once the wound is closed enough and if you’re doing it solo.
Tegaderm might be ok but it completely occludes the wound. Aside from not being able to actually pull the wound closed, which is the point of the zip tie action, keeping it completely occluded will create a nice cozy environment for bacteria and generally impede healing. As things heal up, it’s good to have a way for it to dry out. Even surrounding sweat glands just a fraction of a millimeter away from the wound will contribute to moisture under the tegaderm and cause problems.
I happen to have one of our nexacare waterproof bandages on my other arm… and these things are definitely waterproof. They do trap moisture, but they have a very large absorbent pad to help mitigate moisture trapped under the bandage.
You’re the reason why I have a few boxes of those in my first aid kit… Along with the hydrocoloid version.

Good to know. Thank you for your contributions to science. \(^▽^ )ノ
Indeed. Don’t repeat my mistake.
