xDF3 Now Available!

indeed, it works. but they did tell me that one has to be a little bit precise with the placement of the hand/arm over the reader on the lock. i have heard similar experiences about other locks on this forum, afaik. that’s why i was thinking about a flex implant for improved range, which is also what i heard in this forum works well.

here in germany at least, it seems like the DOM ENiQ Pro V2 is almost the canonical choice, there aren’t many alternatives. There are locks by a brand called SALTO, I am also looking into that.

For sure. Typically, a flex will feel a bit more like magic because they are way easier to couple (the flexUG4 is a noteworthy exception). But placement is pretty critical as they are much more delicate than an x-series.

We do have EV3 cards and I could do some chip extractions… if you bought the card pack with DESFire EV3 and the conversion service, and put instructions into the order to convert the DESFire EV3 to a flex, then yep could be done… we just don’t have many EV3 cards for card packs at the moment otherwise I would probably explore doing a flexDF3 product.

that sounds like a great option, i am definitely considering this!

are there any drawbacks to a “manual” conversion implant as opposed to a flex “product”? otherwise, it’s a no-brainer for me, i will do exactly that!

It’s the same process the only difference is a product is produced in larger batches and the manual process is just made to order.

I wanted to install my xDF3 tomorrow, however I noticed that the sterilisation pouch is open and was not sealed properly. I don’t know if this is “safe” to use, what do you think? @amal

If you can get air in/out of the bag, don’t install without re-sterilizing in some way.

I’m sure @tac0s will be able to do something to make it right.

Yeah, air escapes when I compress the pouch. Can the whole assembly be autoclaved?

I believe so, yes, but I’ll urge you to wait for confirmation from tacos/amal.

It can. From what I am told it must be done with an autoclave that has a plastic setting. If you’re at all uncomfortable with prospect, reply to your order confirmation : )

Thanks, I’ll check tomorrow with my installer if he has an autoclave. If not, I will answer to my order confirmation ^^

Yes this is safe to use… however, what is the insulation pouch doing outside of the procedure pouch well before meeting with your installer? There’s a big old sticker on the procedure pouch that says do not open this until you are ready to install for a reason

The paper backing on the sterilization pouch is super porous and contaminants can actually flow through it pretty easily. That’s why we say to not touch the sterilization pouch and to leave the plastic procedure pouch closed until it’s time to do the install. The small wrinkles in the heat seal of the sterilization pouch would not be an issue if left inside the procedure pouch. Now that it’s outside of the procedure pouch and you are handling it, there is a small but real risk of potential contamination. That risk would be basically identical even if there were no wrinkles in the heat seal, because the paper of the sterilization pouch is super porous by design to allow sterilant through.

I usually leave the procedure pouch closed until installation. However, I saw that the sterilization pouch did not look sealed while still in the procedure pouch and because the gloves always say that they are not sterile, I was not aware that the rest of the pouch was supposed to keep the sterilization pouch clean. I also once bought an LF pet chip for testing (not for installation) and it was shipped in a cardboard box with only the sterilization pouch inside, so I though that was safe :man_facepalming: I did not handle the sterilization pouch much, what do you think I shoul do?

I think @tac0s already suggested but your installer can put the xDF3 into a new sterilization pouch and sterilize in their autoclave. They would then handle the implant with sterile gloves and likely manually place it after making an incision and pocket with a piercing needle.

This video isn’t necessarily the gold standard since the implant is placed through the needle and held in place with a taper while the needle is removed… ideally they needle is just isnerted and removed, having made the incision and pocket at that point, then the implant is picked up and manually inserted into the incision… but this gives you an idea;

Unfortunately, my installer does not have a plastic setting on his autoclave, so we autoclaved the implant only. We then wanted to use an existing pocket which contained an old xNT. He extracted the xNT but was unable to fit it into the xNT pocket. After some trying we gave up and stopped with the installation. A friend of mine ordered the implant, so I will be reaching out via that order confirmation.
