Just curious — does anyone here own the Steve Haworth dermal elevator set? If so, have you ever measured the sizes of the blades? I’m trying to get a sense of how wide they are.
if you don’t hear from anyone here, contact their distributors and ask… it’s kinda their job to answer pre-sales questions;
Makes a lot of sense. Thanks, Amal. Yeah, they were very vague — said it’s a trade secret.
I’ve been thinking about experimenting with the 9 mm Boies Nasal Fracture Elevator (also known as the sterile “butter knife”). If that turns out to be too thick, I may look into the 10 mm Cottle Skin Elevator to see how it performs. And for the 2 cm disc implants, I’m reaseraching the blunt 20 mm Chandler Elevator. If I figure out anything interesting, I keep you all posted.
pff haha… omg… not much of a trade secret if buying a set and measuring it lets the cat out of the bag. They should at least be honest and just say “We don’t want people making their own”… but I mean the price (and that’s a hell of a price) should be justified by the quality and artistry of the product… it’s such a lame cop-out to just not want to give out the information because they just don’t have any real argument to justify the cost.
The funny thing is, keeping this information a secret doesn’t actually do anything. People that would take the info and make their own or buy other tools like it are never going to buy your shit anyway.
The real knee slapper here is the fact that a fucking customer who is going to be buying these WILL NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE SIZES ARE… like I want to buy a car, so I go to the dealer and I’m shown a picture of the car. I ask how many seats there are, what’s the engine size, gas or electric or diesel… “oh sorry those are trade secrets… you have to buy the car first then you can find out for yourself.” … like wtf? Go fuck yourselves guys.
Sorry… bit of a rant there. Don’t get me wrong… I have trade secrets… things I keep close because it took many months and many thousands of dollars to work out… things that the customer doesn’t actually need to know but makes things possible… those are trade secrets. This… this is just cowardice… that’s all it is… and worse, the sizes of these things is actually something a real customer would actually want to know… like wtf is this, wish?
ok ok rant over … for now.
I completely agree! Can you imagine if someone asked you how big the Apex Flex is and you said, “No can do — but once it leaves the shelf, you own it. Good luck!” It really makes me wonder how disconnected some people are from their customers.
The tattoo industry can get a little too Hollywood sometimes. I know an anesthesiologist who told me that pro athletes will spend $100K–$200K for a full-body 10-hour session under sedation. You’d think the artists are getting a piece of that pie — but nope, most of it goes to the owner, who did nothing but bring in the customer. So crazy.
Yeah, this kind of attitude goes against everything the DT community stands for.
Chat says the discs range in diameter from 4 to 16 mm… I wonder if it’s accurate.
Most dermal elevators seem to fall into that range so I’m sure its not that far off.
