Apex Flex and tap flow with ACR122U Reader

I’ve been playing around a lot with my apex flex and there is one pain point that I’m unable to figure out but I’ve read on these forums that I shouldn’t be running into this pain point.

Any time that I tap the apex flex to my ACR122U for FIDO2 authentication I am unable to tap, release, type the pin, and then tap again. I must hold my hand against the reader the entire time for things to work smoothly. This means I have to awkwardly type in a pin while I keep my clanker hand on the reader.

Is this something that others experience? What’s the solution?

Hi, which operating system, browser, and website are you using? Some are able to handle the PIN entry with multiple taps, some are not.

Right now this is windows 11 latest version, firefox, and all websites.
I’m planning on doing my linux workstations tomorrow or the next day.
I’m about to wipe the driver and try reinstalling. I’m guessing that may be it.

On Windows, all FIDO communication is handled by the OS, the browsers just defer to it. Usually Windows is able to do the two-tap flow for PIN entry, nut sure what is going wrong on your system. The ACR122U is known to be unstable at times, especially when handling long commands - but that is rarely the issue.

It may be the ARC122U after uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it seems to work. For future users that may find this thread.

  1. Apex Flex does support tapping, typing the pin and then typing again to finish the transaction.
  2. If you are having issues with the ACR122U my fix was reinstalling the drivers.
