Hey everyone. I know it’s been a minute. Been working on some really cool VivoKey projects, one of which is nearly ready for release. I can’t wait for y’all to try it out.
One of the other endeavors I’ve been working on is Apex tailored PGP support in Apex Manager. I’ve got a first pass of expanded PGP support in a pre-release APK and would love testers for it.
As a developer, I have a tendency to make software for how I would like to use it, but sometimes struggle to consider other use cases outside my own. For this reason, I would love feedback if there is a feature or angle I’ve failed to consider.
If you have experience using PGP keys, or are just interested in PGP in general and want to give it a shot, please let me know. Once I have a small pool of participants, I’ll start a group thread where we can easily discuss bugs/desired features/etc.
Some notes:
- As Apex Manager is currently only available on Android, this testing group will be limited to Android devices only
- The PGP keygen process I’ve made only supports generating ECC keys (NIST & Brainpool). I’ve decided to omit RSA keys as ECC is simply more efficient, keys are smaller, and key generation is sub-second compared to RSA’s up to 30 second key generation process.
- Factory resetting your PGP applet is not currently supported. That’s my next pass goal. This means in order to clear your key to go through the keygen process again, you’ll have to destroy/redeploy the VK PGP applet.
- I also currently do not support publishing, nor querying keyservers for public keys. This is also something I’ll ideally add soon, although this feature specifically will need to wait until I finish the other big VK project I’m working on.
