Been refused MRI (UK)

And alas - I’ve been refused an MRI because of my NeXT, NeXTv2 and xBT in the UK. I was told, after providing all the evidence here, that they don’t believe the legitimacy of the tests (saying “UK Regulation”) and therefore I cannot have an MRI.

In future guys, just fucking lie to your medical health care professionals.

Edit: pls don’t actually lie, I’m just annoyed but I understand why. It’s no biggie

Yeah that’s pretty much the plan (they only get to know about magnets)

For legal reasons that was a joke…

And for legal reasons @TJDizzi was joking here:

I understand that the people above are joking, but I just want to add some advice for those that come to this thread from google. Advice I’ve learned from watching the people closest to me die including the love of my life. No possession, tech, implant, toy, or device will ever be worth more than your health and your life. If your health or life is at risk absolutely do anything you can to get the proper treatment Including removing any implants.

There are Doctors that will trust the research done on the subject, There are radiologists that will be fascinated and talk your ear off, read the documentation, and then still give you the treatment cautiously. Every human on this planet is a collection of knowledge and experiences. Implants are so new that most will be encountering them for the first time and will be hesitant; not because they are scared for themselves, or biased, but because they are looking out for you.

I know from first-hand experience the only thing medical professionals care about is fixing what’s wrong with you. I know this from literally carrying my friend into an ER when he stopped breathing after an OD. No cops, nothing, just treatment. While what we are doing isn’t illegal or wrong, my point is to just tell medical professionals you have implants. They’ll love it because, trust me, they have seen it all and it will probably be something new. They however can’t fix whatever is wrong with you unless you tell them everything.

If you get turned down for an MRI just keep looking and you’ll find someone willing to do the legwork and research to know it’s safe to get your treatment. However, if you need the treatment now, your life is on the line, then please save yourself and the ones that care about you life changing grief and just remove the implant. you can always get new ones, but you only have one life.

I suggest reading this great response by Amal: What machines can interfere with any of the devices, e.g. MRI with magnet? - #2 by amal

For legal reasons I am being super hypothetical here.

By taking HRT(theoretically) because I’m trans, depending on interpretations of laws, thats a felony where I live(not theoretically that parts true). I am not going to tell a doctor that. Not because I think a doctor will tell on me specifically. But because I do not trust the healthcare system to not tell on me.

While in an ideal world, telling doctors everything would be ideal… withholding information can be an unfortunately useful tool for self advocacy in the real one.

Thankfully it’s not a critical MRI, I can get a CT Scan instead. If it was critical then they can take them out if they want to, I’m not opposed to working with medical professionals at all. I just hate that they dismiss it because “they’ve never seen it before”

Of course!! Did I not mention “in Minecraft”?!

correction:

just lie to your medical healthcare professionals in Minecraft

The issue is that in every profession you have brilliant professionals and mediocre ones.

Many of us work in IT, so let’s use the industry as an example. I often run into those interns with a hacker mindset, who study in their free time and never shy away of a tech challenge; then you have Kevin, the tech support guy, who basically spends his life installing windows over and over, does not give a shit about computers after 17:00 and will quote any policy like the gospel, if it means he can avoid responsibility.

There is no reason to think radiologists are different from other human beings: you probably run into a Kevin.

You mean you don’t just wear duct tape over them?

I’m not understanding

Wrap tape around them on your hand/arm to help the skin hold them in place while you’re in the MRI

Or maybe I’m misunderstanding lol

To be super clear to anyone reading this in the future, it’s a joke

Did you explain about the Mythbusters episode?

I’ve had many MRI’s and never had a problem with my implants, never even felt them move or otherwise even when the scan in question was near where my implants were.

To be clear though, do you have magnets?

No I don’t have magnets and if I did I wouldn’t do an MRI with them still in.I think that is really asking for trouble. My favorite thing is passing through the backscatter x-ray at the airport and seeing the confused look on the faces of the TSA. They end up asking to see my hands and with a confused look let me through.

Way better than the usual TSA groping…
