Morning. No fancy talk for this one. Short and sweet. im just trying to fab the 3d printed bracket from 5mm 6063 t6 aluminium. I just wanna bend it from 90. To 86. Total movement 2mm. Whats the best way to do this.
Torch + Vice + Hammer + Block of scrap hardwood
Use the wood to shield the aluminum from dents via the hammer.
At least that’s what I would do if I was trying to be quick.
Not knowing the tools you have available. Do you have access to a hydraulic press? Like one of the cheap ones?
If not you can use a Vise, Heat, and persuasive pressure.
No tools. Lol not even a vice atm. I came to conclusion of just 3d printing a 4* shim at 100 infill. And keep the bracket un altered
Alternative solution: print a wedge spacer so you aren’t weakening the bracket and adding to your manufacturing labor.
Ha!
Youve Seen the Onewheel!
INTRODUCING!
The Chimpwheel!
Sadly i cant claim this as my own. Just an evolved version of this gentlemans work. I will however give gredit to him when making a more indepth how to tutorial. I had to overcome loads of things he failed to mention in his build. https://youtu.be/sVMpvTUdH5s?t=0&si=3B2V6XfNJL1lvyW2
Go go gadget rocket boosters!
there was a movie in the mid 90’s about a remote control possessed skateboard voiced by Dom Deluise that this reminds me of that i was a big fan of as a kid and this reminds me of it.
B.R.A.T. Patrol was a close second.
You’re bolting the brackets to the underside of the board, right?
the bracket sits under the skateboard. but points upwards.
I’m speculating without seeing how it comes together but you’re probably going to want either slots for the holes or another wedge/wedge washers so the fasteners get full contact.
Edit: less slot, I suppose, and more recess. Need more coffee.
One done. One left to do. The. Jusy have to drill holes. The jigs helped lots…
FYI I edited your post… if you put the youtube link on its own line the forum will load the embedded video
So you are mounting your batteries and your ESC on the topside?
Take this advice for what it as, as a rando on the interwebs…
I have however built 3 Electric skateboards with multiple iterations and revisions, although my current skateboard is an off the shelf one, it is also my current daily driver for short distances, I recently brought another 2 (very very good deal on NZ equivalent of eBay), I will be modifying those.
All that to say, I do have some experience with esk8.
I would really like to make my own one-wheel but parts are difficult to come by.
I have never seen the modification that you are doing, it maybe something I could do with one of my spares
The guy was indeed light on detail in his video, but at least he made one, I didn’t save any records at all.
I would personally make a few changes from what he did through my own experience
Let me just bullet point some things for you to consider
- I would suggest you place your batteries underneath to lower your COG, although It does look like you might not have much space underneath on your short board
- Could the batteries go on either side of the wheel, like you have, but mounted to the board, lower the better?
- ESC underneath will give you more space up top
- ESC’s get hot, try to but it on a heat sink or place in a metal box and use the case as the heat sink ( Just be aware of electrical shorting )
- If you go metal box, your remote antenna (it looks like a 2.4GHz one) will need to be external OR have no lid and mount antenna directly under the wood, I pushed mine trough, and lay it under the deck tape on one of my boards
- Battery box, plastic is fine, but some Kydex maybe better to work with than ABS like he used, Make a negative of the pack, heat the Kydex, place it over the negative…
- 3D printinig is a good option, but comes with pros and cons
- if you can find a project box the right size to house you batteries, that would be a win
- choose your charging port wisely, a waterproof cover is worth considering
Anyway, Not that you have asked for any of this advice, just some thoughts for you,
I’m interested in which batteries you have chosen and why
I can expand on any of those points if you want me to, and I have more comments if you wanted to hear…
