I have a magnet in my hand shown by the arrow in picture. It is almost not magnetic anymore, it’s been there for about 10 years. If I remove that magnet and put the module there, will it work properly?
A degenerating magnetic field almost certainly means total failure of the encapsulation. This should not be an “if” but a “when” and hopefully a “first thing tomorrow” kind of thing.
For a little while, then it will probably fail because that’s a terrible spot for flex ![]()
Thanks Amal. It’s a Steve Haworth magnet, encapsulated in silicone. I have no pain in the area, no sign of infection. I’ve been thinking about removing it, but I know no one in Houston to do it. I need to go to Austin, which is impossible at the moment cause I have a two year old toddler!
That point is the most convenient spot for me for a payment implant. It’s a pity I can’t use it. I don’t want to use the webbing between index and thumb cause it makes me twist and bend my hand in awkward ways to make a payment (I put the walletmore there, was not much happy with it). Maybe back of the hand?
this is likely due to a very slow corrosion process that does not spike your immune response, but is or has leaked nasty stuff into you.
If you put it more on top of the hand, not on the side, it would fair much better.. like P3.. possibly P4
Thanks Amal for the warning. I’m in the doctor’s office to remove the magnet.
I guess P3 will be the spot for me.
Extraction go ok? How bad was the implant?
They only took an X-ray. Extraction will be next week. I’ll definitely take a picture and post it after extraction
Definitely post the X-ray and extracted magnet. If it’s corroded it would be great to have a matching x-ray to see if an X-ray alone could diagnose magnet failure
Sorry for hijacking this thread, I wasn’t sure where to post the X-ray and magnet pictures that we discussed above. Here they are!
@amal I don’t see any unusual thing in the X-ray images, do you?
And thanks for the warning ![]()
No I don’t, which sucks. The barrel of the magnet held together well enough that it’s not really possible to see on x-ray. Glad it’s out now though.
No problem, I just created you your own thread which I think it deserves anyway.
