Dangerous Things meetup Oct 17 to 21

Me? Yeah kinda. My plan is to leave on the 21st, hitchhike to the Ouachita National Forest, do the Eagle Rock Loop hike, hitchhike back to DFW by the 26th (morning), and fly to Phoenix where I’ll do a road trip until nov 6th.

If I spend the 21st and 25th hitchhiking that leaves me with 3 full days to do the 48km-12h walk. Which sounds reasonable.

It seems to me that my best bet is to hitchhike to Athens. Which is nice because Athens is where I grew up (the og one). And right in the middle is Paris

My flight lands at 8:30 AM. So not super early, but still in the morning.

Basically, you’re passing through my backyard.
Fri/Sat/Sun I’ve got stuff going on. Mostly on Saturday. After that, if hitching is slow, and you don’t mind riding in the jankiest Ford Ranger you’ve ever seen, hit me up.

Sweet! I’ll get to meet the blue rabbit man after all!

Now I’ve got the mental image of you wearing a mankini in the passenger seat of an extremely janky ford ranger… Send help!

Not a problem. The jankiest ranger of all time won’t go that fast.
Seriously, this thing was rescued just before the junkyard. It had 4 flat tires, a completly busted windshield, some “creative” rewiring by the previous owner, a fragged flywheel gear, nothing but steel springs to sit on, no working gauges (various reasons), and fist sized holes in the block and radiator.

I’ve fixed some of that. The block only got JB weld. Been driving it for 3-4 years now.

Is there a better word to describe a mankini?

Says the guy who wants to be a robot and not wear any clothes…

How on earth does that even run!?

There’s a hole in the floor and @ODaily runs real fast.
Now I just wanna see it

There’s a big difference between running and running well lol.
Now i really want to see this ranger.

For awhile stepping on the clutch would short out the speedometer. Previous owner used an automatic truck wiring harness.

What’s the saying, A good mechanic’s truck is always broken. I got skills, baby!

I know… I’m still surprised thatbit runs with holes in the block…

Same, hence why I’m surprised… Except for the broken truck… I’m missing that bit.

Just to re-rail this conversation: what’s the latest consensus about taking flippers on US flights? Is it worth bringing mine?

It’s really more of an extended crack. It runs from the pan rail, almost to the deck surface, then follows the upper deck surface for about 3 inches, and back down to the pan rail.

I drilled the crack ends, then drilled multiple places along the crack, tapped the holes and tightened bolts to hold the sides together, and then SMOOSHed a heaping handful of JB weld over it all.

3 years ago. I drive it every day. I’ve made multiple trips back to Kansas, about a 9 hour drive one way.

Whoops, sorry.

What about the radiator? Sid you repair or replace it?

I replaced it at the beginning of this summer. The hole was a busted up cracked section so you could fill it up with coolant, but as soon as you drove it, it would push half of it out. Didn’t realize that at first and thought it was the JB leaking.

But it ran fine like that for years. It would overheat, just barely maybe almosty right at the boiling point if the outside temp was over 90 with AC or over 100 without.

Rangers are fricking awesome. My next one will be bought from texas and have license plate that says “Walker”.

AND everything I can find on the flipper says you can’t hand carry it??? Maybe if it was in a case, no batteries, and in checked luggage?

I just flew from Detroit to Anaheim and back and it was in my back pack and I had no issues.

No idea about international tho
