Disappointed with Lock Reads- Lock Recommendation?

I currently have a battery powered lock that I’m attempting to open via a magic ring. The read distance is really far, 1" of air space + 1/8" plywood. I can get a read but it takes a couple minutes of fiddling with it. With the included cards I can get a read in a few seconds of fiddling, but it’s still not ideal (plus the idea is to not need the cards, eventually switch to an implant). I got @Hamspiced sample kit of repeaters, but it hasn’t seemed to improve things. I was thinking about buying the relocator, but I think I just don’t have the power from the reader to do what I am trying to do.

So I was thinking, I can probably get to power… a bit (extraordinary amount) of rework required… But I do get great reads from those HID hard wired access readers with my ring… does anyone have experience with these sorts of locks:

Amazon Linky

If so, is the a brand recommendation?
Should I be looking for HF or LF reader for this sort of distance?

<I did search the forum and found a bunch of lock discussions, but most had broken Amazon links so I couldn’t see what they were talking about>

Do you have a field detector as well to ensure the best possible placement of the repeater.

Next is how are you applying the repeater?

In your case since you’re going through the air space and the plywood you will want the repeater on the non-lock side of the plywood. This way you’ll have a point of reference on where to present the ring and eventually the implant

I have the feild detector that came with the kit. It lights up faintly (seen with lights off in dim ambient light) when in direct contact with the lock, but does not light up from a distance of 1/8" of air space. I haven’t been able to get any blink from any of the repeaters that came in the sample pack. Right now I have the sticker one directly touching the reader, and a large circle attached to the outside of the plywood. I also tried moving the big circle out to the other side of the airspace, but that seemed to yield worse results. Right now they’re all attached via some scotch tape.

So only use one repeater at a time.

The field detector is the only one that has an LED. The other units have onboard capacitors not LEDs.

Try taking the one off the reader.

Well that explains why they don’t light up, I thought they all were supposed to blink. I can go back to just the one on the other side of the plywood.

Yep only the one labeled field detector will light up

I ended up buying [this one] (Amazon.com : IMAGE Proximity RFID Card Access Control System Kit with 180kg 350LB Electric Magnetic lock 110-240V AC to 12v DC 3A 36w Power Supply Proximity Door Entry Keypad 10 Key Fobs EXIT Button : Electronics) because it was $50… No mention on the frequency or anything so it’s a real shot in the dark. Someone in the reviews said read distance is a foot, which sounds unreasonably far… I’ll scany-thing the fob with my proxmark when they get here and see what I can see and then beg for assistance further.

<edit: I found a manual online, looks like it’s LF>
