Heya! I got Gen 1 magnets in April 2013; I think that I may need to pull them out, as I’m starting to have significant concerns that the coating is degrading (major concern from that era; I didn’t expect them to last 5 years). These are the pretty big magnet cylinders, with pretty serious strength. Definitely has gotten a lot weaker over the past 15 years, but I’m still pretty happy with sensing and strength.
Are there any tests/measurements anyone would like me to run as I evaluate whether they need to come out? I’m always down to further the movement!
Feasibly! I THINK they were DT products, but now I’m questioning myself a bit. Sampa installed them, so they would have been whatever he was using in 2013.
I’m pretty sure that the xG3 was introduced way after that…
Also, isn’t that the year when Dangerous Things was established as a company? I know that there was an earlier magnet that had issues, but I doubt that it was introduced that early.
The good news is that DT is now selling better magnets that should be safe and last for a very long time.
m31 was also a small disc and not a cylinder. but yeah iirc parylene fails after some time since it eventually forms micro cracks and moisture gets inside and does its magic
These were most certainly parylene coated magnets that were popular during that time. Dangerous Things had just started in 2013 so they definitely aren’t ours. Definitely get them out before they degrade too far to come out at all.
This video was released after our old failed m31 product. I will link directly to where I talk about parylene magnets;
