Well I’ll be damned. I was hesitant to give them my drivers license + SSN + face scan based purely off the vibes their site gives off, but, I suppose identity theft is a small price to pay to be able to pay with my hand…
Will test tomorrow. Or I’ll get impatient and walk to the corner store to test tonight
Just finished setting up ether.fi, figured I would give a heads up to others in the disliked states; it is asking me to share location data to prove I am at the address I gave or give proof via bills/paperwork.
So if you need to, don’t use an address too far away so you can go there. Or if you use a more open phone OS like graphene; I used this to quickly teleport to my address, share my location and verification succeeded.
Yall have any thoughts on kast vs ether.fi - i only went kast cause someone suggested it to me a few weeks back and had half an account already setup because i too also got sketched out by their websites
They are probably functionally identical when it comes to Fidesmo Pay integration. I couldn’t get verified on Kast so I can only speak about ether.fi, but in researching them it looks like ether.fi is more serious about what they’re doing. They established a crypto foundation alto further crypto goals, integration, and compliance. Also I don’t have to dick around with crypto at all if I don’t want to.. I just ACH cash to ether.fi and it stays USD and I just spend from that account.
There are plenty of others, but this is the one I have used before.
It’s “free” , but you have one pop up advert to clear before you stop your location.
I tried on my laptop but ultimately had to finish it on my phone (stupid webcam wasn’t detected for the face ID) but was able to get it to work with the spoofing
Appreciate all of the thanks from everyone! I’ve been just as eager for over two years now.
I did let Kast know I wasn’t going to move forward with an account. They seemed interested to understand the utility of Fidesmo, so might be worth some outreach if someone has the appetite. At least a small (and growing and mighty!) user base would use their product if they improved it.
@amal thanks for the offer! I’ll DM you. P.S and great video on the Conspiracies of COVID haha. I got a kick out of that. Interesting and cool watch! And also some salient points about surveillance.
Also decided to dig deeper and try other platforms. I went through KYC for 3 different companies today and loaded funds. I had success with 1 of 3. May be worth building a database of what platforms work with Fidesmo and which ones definitely don’t, and similarly which ones work in US and which ones don’t.
I’ll add the Zypto process is pretty annoying and extensive, you have to buy USDC (a stable coin) but can use a credit/debit card to fund, and then you have to transfer USDC on a crypto network (I used ETH) to your “virtual card” wallet, and you have to pay a transfer fee, which can only be paid for using ETH, which requires a separate purchase. All in all doable, but certainly not user friendly. Maybe a good fall back to Ether.Fi though if nothing else.
I was also a bit nervous about deleting my Ether.Fi payment card from Fidesmo and adding a new one for testing, only to switch back again, but it was actually quite easy and seamless.
I’ll keep digging and finding more options. I may have exhausted most of the options, but we all know how unstable these payment providers can be so worth having a Plan B and C!
I have confirmed through channels that the reason why Zypto, Kast, Ether.Fi work with Fidesmo Pay is that these platforms are built on another platform called “Rain Card” (https://rain.xyz) which enabled Fidesmo Pay as a token requestor. That’s the only reason these platforms work, and also the reason these platforms have no idea what Fidesmo Pay is - they had nothing to do with it.
