flexSecure antenna types

Hello,
From this post (Smartcard Antennas, Contactless Readers, Performance, and You) I have understood some things about functional difference between different antenna types of flexSecure Java Card implant.

What about visual, constructive differences?
Does flexSecure with all three antenna types look the same or there are some differences in design/dimensions?

Also if somebody would give short brief what narrow/spectrum/module antenna types mean, I would say thanks to this.

Check the pictures and product page : )

For flexSecure there is just one type of photo of narrow antenna type as I understand, drop-down list doesn’t make any difference, but I see it on Apex Flex page. Thank you for the hint.

These are relatively new offerings for the FlexSecure, but I’m sure the product page will be updated with images and dimensions etc. in due course.
As mentioned above, basically the same as the Apex product range.
Heres an idea of what you are looking at in order of increasing read range

NARROW (This is actually a FlexUG4, but visually the same)
8mm x 28mm

SPECTRUM (Specifically a Vivokey Apex With blinkies, but will be the same size)
22mm diameter

MODULE
14mm x 35mm

I have an ApexFlex and FlexSecure (narrow)
The range is more than good enough, But also noticably improved with a repeater sticker.

I’m currently having problems with my FlexSecure, however, there has been an antenna redesign, which I believe is performing very well)

Whichever you choose, im sure you will be more than happy with.

  • I am debating getting the “module” antenna or the “spectrum” antenna versions of the flexSecure Java Card.
    • My flexSecure Java Card is still sealed, so I could sell it in the EU for a rather good price.
  • Can someone give me pros/cons of the “narrow” version I have versus the other ones?
  • Can someone convince me that what I got was the correct version (the other versions hadn’t existed before)?
    • It is after all the least intrusive, so I like that, and it seems like this one is the least likely to break under accidental impact/bending/etc.?
    • It also leaves more possibilities for implanting, but this does not matter if I take a very fleshy part

There’s a WIP post about the antenna differences.

nice thanks, i took a look… i see that the module antenna is more performant than the narrow antenna. but how “bad” is the narrow antenna in real world use? am i good with a sticker on my phone case? are tabletop nfc readers good enough as-is with the narrow antenna?

seriously considering getting the module antenna flexsecure if i can sell the narrow antenna flexsecure, if i decide to put it in my arm on the underside (fleshy part). if i put it in my hand, i think i would just want the narrow version, not sure how comfortable i am with a module antenna flexsecurw in my hand.

It’s not terrible. It’s more about how casual you can be with placement. More range and less orientation specificity. And then of course app install speed differences.
