Flipper Zero - Kickstarter RFID/RF/BLE/USB/IR

Ah no, I’m not really upset… just a bit annoyed, maybe, and a bit surprised that they didn’t really communicate that early, because their communication is absolutely great otherwise. I had in mind that I read in one of their earlier newsletters that kickstarter orders should be shipped first, and that was my assumption, too. But yeah, like Pilgrim said, I’m gonna get it when I’m gonna get it, and that’s not a big thing.

Had to smile a bit about that, though - sooner than expected, with just one year or so of delay
They were always communicative about the reasons for this delay, so no grumpy feelings at all here, but still - sooner than expected sounds kinda funny^^

I don’t really like this argumentation - I have never performed a surgery as well, and still, if my doc fucks something up, I can critizise him (not saying the people at flipper’s fucked anything up, though^^). I recently had a similar argument about a computer game that’s just delayed for some years without any information, and people say things like “yeah, you just don’t know how hard programming can be” - true that, but it’s still not okay

Obviously.
I mean, war is one of the most terrible possible fuckups in the world, so almost nothing is important at all compared to that.

I do feel bad for the Kickstarer backers. It sucks that a lot of them have to wait longer than the people that just pre-ordered it.

That being said though… I just got my new hacker dolphin friend! Haven’t done much else other than turning it on yet. I won’t be able to do much with it until tomorrow probably.

Edit: did a quick range test. It easily read my HF glassies! Couldn’t get a read on the LF side of my NExT in the 10 seconds I spent trying, but I’ve never been able to read the LF side of it with anything, so it’s probably just a me problem.

:-/ hopefully not the norm

I did manage to get consistent reads on the LF side after a minute or two. The range isn’t nearly as good with LF as it is with HF, but it’s definitely good enough. I just had to find the right location

There reassuring, I was getting worried for a minute because 80% of what I want the flipper for is LF

Flipper arrived today, trying to get it to scan an implant.

Does anyone know where the internal antennas are to make it easier?

On the bottom face, near the center I believe. A fairly wide loop. I would try each edge, with your implant perpendicular.

Congrats, you beat me to it  :sob:

I should be getting mine tomorrow, it reached my city.

You asked 5 hours ago…I REALLY hope you have been succesful by now…

Did you try your xFD
:xfd:

I got it to do everything but the LF side of my next so far.

You kind of have to press it relatively forcefully into your hand over the implant. If the light starts blinking blue, hold it in that position for a couple seconds

Because the universe is cruel, it looks like I won’t be getting my flipper today. It’s been out of the distribution center for 18 hours, but somehow never made it to my post office. Scheduled delivery for Saturday. Whatever.

Using my time til then to print a shell.

Bottom half is done, and looking absolutely fantastic.

Even the iButton holes printed flawlessly. In awe of the detail, even the tiny clips printed perfectly.

Printing the top shell and buttons now. I’ll post the STLs for the buttons right after this post (making this post on my phone). There’s also a piece that slots in for the lanyard hole.

Hoping the clips will hold the two main shells together, would let me know I got things mostly right with the fitment. Would suck if the dimensions were slightly off.

Top shell printed and fitted to the bottom shell. Some minor warping in the bottom shell, but overall a good first go at this. GPIO headers completely clear too, the smallest component.

Excited to actually fit the flipper in this.

The understament of the year; it looks fucken amazing.
I looking forward to see the fitment and finished look.

Ever since I saw this image from the kickstarter campaign

I was surprised/disappointed that transparent or even translucent was not a casing option.

Yours looks awesome.

that’s the coolest shit I could have imagined,

I was just going to graffiti or sticker wrap, but that shit is dope

I always wanted clear electronics ever since there was an iPod mod to a clear shell… never got it as I was a broke middle school kid

How much? I would happy buy you some even more clear resin if that’s an option

I think clear thermoplastic tends to be weaker/more brittle

That was my experience when I made custom holsters, mirage kydex looked sick, but it cracked like an adhd college freshman

I’ll DM you later tonight with more info :+1: Have an assignment due in about 4 hours so working hard on that, but wanted to make sure I replied.

I’m going to reprint the bottom shell, see if I can find an orientation that minimizes warping. A print of another top shell + more buttons and the dpad fnished while I was sleeping, so I can try and get those cleaned up and fitted.

Clear/translucent electronics have always been my favorite, since my first game console (Gameboy Advance, the first style). It was a super ugly cloudy translucent blue, but it was good enough to make me realize I liked that style a lot.

Take your time, I’m probably not getting mine till April, I’m adding a month onto any shipping predictions

Yea I had a clear purple gameboy and a matching n64 controller, but it was Cloudy and not enough was really visible to be that exciting

This is the one that got away…

I technically still have my old iPod, which needs a new hard drive or ssd replacement from a fall…

I could maybe pursue the mod now, but no real point these days

I love the neochrome back plate. As tacky/cheesy as it is in a lot of places, I’ve always loved that look as well.

My hope is that if/when I print a case for you (assuming I don’t forget to DM…), if you end up going to Chicago I could hand deliver it. Would save on shipping, plus it’d make sure that nothing got broken in transit. If you don’t end up coming (100% understandable, long drive and so far I’m the only one going), I’m still fine with mailing it.

If there’s a case involved that’s even more reason to make the trip… 2 biohackers ripping apart a flipper in the back of a restaurant… possibly freaking people out lol :joy:

Wait… I didn’t think this through

I’m not expecting it till April, which means I won’t have mine by then… oh well

I’m still 90% on board

Apparently the bottom board, the RFID board, is glued into the bottom casing. Rather unfortunate.

Hoping that dousing it in isopropyl + softly working around with the guitar picks from my iFixit kit will work it free with no damage to the board or the original housing. Some double-sided tape should be enough to hold it back in when I reassemble.

Yeah, I was slightly confused for a moment haha. Hopefully I’ll be able to bring mine so we can play around with it, as well as showing off the new casing.
