We are taking waterproof (silica-coated) strontium aluminate glow powder and it is sprinkled into a fresh cutting.
There have been several tries with injecting and tattooing it, but the cutting method has worked best so far. But itās still quite new, and there might be some other cool techniques to work it under the skin.
There was also the idea of sandblasting it with a stencil into the skin, but that still needs to be tested.
A fuckton of people got glow scarifications at grindfest this past weekend (I did a lot of the procedures, it was fun). There will be more pictures incoming soon as they start taking their bandages off
I posted on the discord so i thort id also share it here. Ive found some multi sized leather bore stamps in different shapes. Ive ordered 2 stars to check the quality (i exspect them to be manky and blunt. But i think i can sharpen and clean them.)
Iām not sure those punches would make the experience any easier than using a scalpel and stencil. Iām incredibly tempted to try it out with a small strip and some glow powder.
Iām worried about whatās behind the skin. I imagine it would take a lot of force to stamp wet flesh, but whatās under the skin is not usually a hard workbench.
I was gona 3d print a depth jig. So it can be set to a cetain depth then wack it. Till the jig meets the skin. I had considerd freehand. But all friends are in experienced. Ill test it on some pig first.
i should add⦠that this for making outlines ,not for coring shapes out of skin, so for example, i have ordered a 10 mm and a 6mm star, when aligned over eachother, that would leave a 2 mm strip that an be removed with a scaple, that most importantly would be as neat and as symmetrical as the stamp.
so heres an example of the stamp jig, havent added any sort of depth control yet but heres the concept, line it up, wack it, and if sharp enough there should be a nice sliced outline of the shape at the correct depth.
The pictures below are a little bit reversed. The first two pictures are today, which is day five, and the third picture is the very first day. Looks like itās healing pretty well and Iām excited to take the bandage off and clean it this Thursday or Friday. It looks like the powder took to most of the cuts and there should only be a couple of areas that Iāll need to touch up. Overall, not a bad process whatsoever, and my package of glow powder only took about five days to get to the United States from Switzerland, which was a pleasant surprise.
Okay so customs (?) or the carrier did a dumb and we have to restart the shipping process. BUT:
I need to be able to do everything except for wrapping it up myself, so I am limited.
I am thinking of doing a small (blue) lightning bolt on my forearm, nothing crazy. Maybe 2-4 inches long and maybe an inch wide, consisting of either one jagged line or ~7ish straight lines total. I want to be confident that I can do it in one go and still be decent.
Figured Iād show my glow cutting process from start to finish.
I followed mrlnās tutorial pretty much word for word.
I used lidocaine cream in 4 applications for 4 hours prior and didnāt feel a thing.
Carving curved lines with a #10scalpel was challenging so I swapped to an 11 with a pointier and more angled blade.
I used 3 packs of powder for this design. Healing process took closer to 10 or 11 days for me.
My skin was really irritated from the bandage by day 9 but a bit of Aquaphor is helping to protect the glowscar and get the surrounding skin back in shape. Iām treating aftercare the same as I would a tattoo.
