Glow Powder Cuttings and Tattoos

Miana has a ton of tritium vials and glowing runes in her arms. The stragglers after grindfest went up to red rock canyon so we could look at the stars. On the way back down the bluff she was shrouded in a black blanket like a hooded robe with her bare arm sticking out to hold her cane. With all the glow she looked like a witch come to reveal the secrets of the desert.

Were the attempts with tattooing it unsuccessful?

What is the difference between the small particle and big particle one and which do you recommend?

Hey, multiple people in the community have been trying to get tattooing with the glow powder working for months now with very limited success. The problem is that the silica encapsulation is so tough that it pulverizes the tattoo needles, which dulls them and leaves visible metal dust behind in the skin. Additionally there’s no way to tell how much this process damages the silica, so some of the powder could have become un-encapsulated. People have sourced more durable needles but that’s not going to solve the problem.

The radiation symbol pictured above was an entirely stick and poke tattoo, so that works if you are willing to deal with the tedium. Others have tried “dry tattooing” and then rubbing the powder in, and also microneedling devices. I would wait until at least a few months have passed to consider any of these methods “successful” though, because the skin could still push out the particles.

The powder is immiscible in water. Other formulations have been tried like glycerin and witch hazel extract, just to suspend it long enough to work with, but it needs to be mixed immediately before. The biohazard stick and poke above was done with tattoo artist “green soap” which contains chlorhexidine so that’s good, although I don’t think soap is appropriate. A group is attempting to figure out a secondary coating method that will protect the powder and let the needles slide past, something like PMMA, but that’s a longer timeline which may involve third party services.

Most of the active developments are happening on the Biohackers Digital Discord. I dislike walled gardens, which is why I spend so much time ferrying information back and forth like this between parties. I do like that it’s a much faster medium for conversation though and that it’s not affiliated with companies. I can also say from experience if it wasn’t happening here or on Discord it would just be happening in private signal groups which is about as insular as information gets, so we take what we can get

I’ve done it! Already linked gifs/images are my arm. Didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped since I healed it slightly differently than my other glowy bits.

Do people randomly notice / comment?

Once in awhile, but I have a number of other scars (photos here are my arm: Sterile biosafe glowing powder - Abyss Walker) so I almost always wear long sleeves.

More often I intentionally show it off! The power button works great as a cheesy pick up line too lol, “wanna know how to turn me on?” Was actually one of the main reasons I got it

Laugh if you will, but I pulled something similar once and got a date out of it.

Can’t go into too much detail, but I have a mole “somewhere”, that I would joke is a “saliva-activated grow button”

I’ve been thinking about this particular technique since college. I was thinking Avatar-style glowspots, perhaps. Some kind of TRON lines would be another aesthetic worth using, as would just about anything from 2077.

24hr after cutting, ISO Tron, and GLOWZILLA!

Tron will probably need some touchup, it was already crusty when I took the tegaderm off. Both lightly washed, cleaned up, re-packed and re-bandaged.
