Thanks everyone! Once again I celebrated my birthday by holeing up in my man cave playing video games and staying offline. It was glorious.

What did you play / have you been playing in recent months?

well ever since I was a wee lad, I kind of refused to pay full price for video games, movies, etc. I do believe artists and studios need to get paid to keep making good stuff, and while a ā€œgood mealā€ at the local Thai place for me and mine can definitely run well past the $69 a good game costs, somehow I just can’t… so I just put all the games I want in my watchlist on Steam and wait for Steam to tell me they are on sale. If the game is $20 or less, I buy it and finally play it.

The one advantage to this approach aside from saving $40 is that usually the games are so old they are selling the ā€œultimateā€ or ā€œcompleteā€ editions for that price that includes all the DLC.

Right now I’m about 50% through Horizon: Forbidden West. I think by 2028 I’ll be starting Baldur’s Gate 3 or Elden Ring

Save for the watchlist, I do just about the same. I check the sales regularly, and if something is on sale at a decent price and I wanted it before, it gets purchased. Anything under ~$10 I usually get sale or no sale.

But good for you! I hope you get more time to visit these in the near future

A really good meal costs less that $20 where I live. Still, I bought all of my favorite games for way less. Steam sales are awesome!

IIRC I payed full price for Cyberpunk 2077, and I hated it. But this hate grew over time as the story developed so it was too late to ask for a refund when I was done with it.

A big advantage of waiting for sales is that you don’t get carried away by the marketing and hype. And if the game sucks, you won’t feel as bad for paying full price.

This. I just started playing the Bioshock series last month. If a game/movie is still a beloved classic years later, then it might just be as good as they say.
