I dream of Implants 🧞 + Poll

Couple nights ago, had my first implant related dream (that I’ve remembered).

After chatting with the driver of the school bus/van about how much more maneuvrable the shorter bus was and about the metre that indicated that the oxygen supply in the cabin was still non-toxic enough that policy didn’t require him to evacuate the students, I got off at school and clocked in by stamping the back of my left hand with my arrival time to prove I hadn’t played hookie. When I did this, I noticed a couple things (besides the possibility of playing hookie after getting stamped in).

One was that the key was still in the stamp, meaning I could adjust the readings of the stamp to forge whatever time I wanted, so naturally I immediately started looking around for some putty to make a copy of the key, not because I needed to or had any plans of cheating the system, but just because I could. I wished I had some of that ferromagnetic putty I saw on the DT forums, or any kind of putty, but I couldn’t find any.

The other thing I noticed when I was looking at my arm was that the entry point where I implanted one of my chips (probably the flexSecure) had stretched out and swollen up all red, soft, and puffy. The deeper skin was still intact, not bleeding, but the outer layers of skin had scrunched outward to make a wide cavity on the surface, and the skin around the cavity was all bunched up and wrinkled in big ripples of soft swells where the flesh had migrated outward away from the central cavity. It wasn’t bleeding, but it was all messed up and I didn’t want it to get infected, so with some resignation I decided I probably ought to do the responsible thing and prioritise treating it rather than trying to steal a copy of the school time stamp key.

So I put the stamp back and I squeezed a thick line of silicone gel into the cavity to fill in the hole and grabbed some bandages. It was difficult to apply the bandages, since my stamped left hand was on the end of the same arm as the wound I was trying to dress, I had to use my other hand on the side of that arm to hold the wound closed, and my other other hand on the other arm to apply the bandages. Now, I don’t think I will dox myself too badly by clarifying that IRL I have precisely two hands and they’re each located at the end of an arm. But this was a dream.

Trouble was, the hand on the side of my arm, holding my wound closed, it kept getting in the way of the bandages. I think I was trying to apply the bandages with the same hand reaching around itself from behind. That is, I’m not sure I had three hands, I just had my right hand twice, and it was coming up behind itself pac-man style to try to put the bandages under itself, but it was getting in its own way. Either that, or my fingers from the stamped hand were trying to bend backwards or twist the wrist around to apply the bandages on itself, or drop the bandages on its own forearm using gravity. One way or another, the bandages just kept on ending up getting caught in the webbing of my fingers on the hand that was trying to pinch the skin back together.

That is all.
