For a couple of years I’ve used my FlexOne with a KBR1 to login into my PC, so it was like muscle memory, it became natural to tap the back of my hand on the reader and get instant login.
I just removed my FlexOne today as it was finally giving up after 5 years. I will be installing my Apex Module in the same hand next week.
So the point I’m getting to is with the implant removed, I’ve lost an ability that feels natural, I can no longer just tap my hand and login instantly. I go to my PC and its like I have to resist the muscle memory telling me to just slap my hand on the reader and then proceed to login the peasant way.
Has anyone else experienced this? It sounds silly but I kind of feel sad.
Well, it is the loss of a bodily function at the end of the day…
You might have added the implant, but it became a part of you in several ways. So having it fail should feel kinda bad, and IIRC Rosco described the same feeling back in the day.
I’d like to wish you a smooth install with your new Apex module, and a speedy healing process with minimal inflammation.
yep.. though kind of in reverse. I had set up my back door with an external reader panel that would activate the deadbolt. After around a year, the power supply I chose to use gave up.. the reader went dead. I was all like…
It was amazing, but one day, my bank announced they were no longer supporting the payment method, after that date, this rendered my conversion unusable for the purpose I got it.
I loved having it, I accepted losing it, but on occasion for a short period after, I had to fight the muscle memory when going to pay for things.
I spent a couple of years magnet-less after my first round of magnets failed, and it was definitely disconcerting/annoying to not feel things that I expected to be there.
I’m currently in the process of trying to find a bank in the UK that has started issuing coil on module cards, but so far, no luck. I have ordered multiple different cards from Revolut to see if any of those are CoM. I would do the ring conversion but the only way to actually use that is with Curve and I’ve had absolutely no luck getting an account with them lol.
But yeah, I can imagine if I had a payment implant and it eventually failed or expired I’d be pretty upset with the loss of that convenience!
