If you were getting an xMagic TODAY.. Gen 1a or 2?

I have a bricked NeXT v2 (t5577) in L0, and i’m thinking about adding an xMagic to L0 as well, since I don’t believe they’ll interfere with each other.

Realistically, how much of a problem is the magic chip getting detected? The last thing I want is to get the Gen 2 and brick that as well lmao

Both sides of your NeXTv2 are bricked?

If you have the means to program it, like a PM3, I’d personally recommend a Gen1a

Although, you may double-check with a test card that a Gen1a will work for your purposes, just for the fun of it

And most people would.
However
I personally prefer the gen2 as I do most of my writing to that one with my Phone via MCT because it is so convenient, But I write to mine a lot (Hotels).
If I was setting up a lock for home that only used Mifare, I would go fo a gen1a.

Whats you potential use case?

No, just the t5577 is bricked

I think it would mainly be hotels like 5 times a year and maybe at home door access.

I do have a PM3

The HF side at least could cause some interference then

Depending on how exactly the T5577 ended up configured when it bricked, it seems like it could still put out noise that might interfere with LF too… Not sure

I honestly can’t even get a dump out of it. I even ordered a booster board to see if it would help, but no dice. I check it on a known working card, and I can read it

Make sure you have good coupling with lf tune and then write a known good configuration.

That should hopefully fix it.

I’m tempted to get a flexUG4 in L3 which is more flexible than the xMagic… But I haven’t had the time to play with my test card or the need for it.

I don’t think i’m getting a good coupling. I bricked it, left it for a few months and now I can’t get anything out of it, and when I run lf tune, I can only get like a 200-300 drop which doesn’t seem like enough

Find the place where you get the biggest drop, then try flashing a working config.

You might get lucky.

The booster board only helps HF stuff

hotels have notoriously crappy reader and its extremely rare for them to pick up the x-series.
I only had 2 or 3 hotel where my xMagic got picked up successfully’ by those readers.

Hey as tacos said the booster only works on HF not LF.

Your t5577 may be recoverable…. I’ve seen the guys here work magic on that chip

Might update the listing for us who have a few less brain cells.. I thought so but :man_shrugging: I guess the LF antenna could be weak, since it’s an amazon version.

That’s unfortunate to hear. I do have very thin hand skin, and my x series easily protrudes, I wonder how deep your x series is.

I live in the middle of Washington and would drive 5-6 hours any direction to anyone super familiar with this stuff to try and get it sorted  I just can’t get a good coupling, and I don’t want to throw money at something that might be bricked

the magic is pretty close to the top, its clearly visible when i make a fist.

I like it a lot, i dont regret it any way, but it doesnt do what i was hopping for hotels (I travel a LOT for work). So i went with teh UG4 when it came out, i believe i got the funky weird antenna as i get very poor reads, but i have a newer one i need to swap in.

Yep basically, just down the road in Quincy. I’ll be in Seattle Feb 21st & 22nd for work, otherwise I’m on the west side all summer for car shows
