iPhone 13 not reading text record on NExT chip

Hey y’all.

My new NExT chip only contains the string πŸ’‹πŸ’‹πŸ’‹, though my iPhone 13 won’t show a pop-up when I try to scan it. It does however work when I put a LinkedIn link on my chip. My old Huawei P Smart reads the πŸ’‹πŸ’‹πŸ’‹ string just fine.

Cheers!

iPhones don’t support every NFC record type, plaintext is one of the unsupported ones:

oh mannnπŸ˜”

I thought I could cheat it by making it open https://πŸ’‹πŸ’‹πŸ’‹, but then it just gives me an β€œOpen this in your browser” pop-up and shows this

Why not host a picture of it and then link to the picture

This is actually a really great idea. Since iOS doesn’t really support Contact records either (bastards), I might make an ID card-esque picture (not for fraud purposes) with some of my info on it and link to that image. How fun!

For that you can use a service like blinq. And then link to the website url

Ohh no I meant it much more literally, I made this:

So initially my idea was to have my chip link to a webpage with this picture on it, which would then also immediately prompt to download a vCard file. But that seems a bit clunky, and it’s kinda a security risk as anyone who finds the webpage would also immediately have my email and phone number (not good).

Right now I’ve got a vCard on record 1 and just my phone number on record 2. So if someone scans me on Android they should immediately get the vCard, and if someone scans me on iOS they should just get a pop-up with my number. Still pretty cool:relieved_face:
