Lately the app has been not working and just says “checking for your authenticator” before i tap my apex, and “tap your authenticator now” after I tap it.
Upon checking the vivokey fido for windows app, i noticed this:
Power cycling the ACR and/or scanning my apex in the vivokey fido for windows app seems to temporarily fix things, but then it stops working again after a period of time.
Im not sure how to check what other application would even be using the reader, but it seems to be stopping me from logging in with my apex.
Very likely it’s the ACS drivers. They are garbage. Try removing the ACS specific drivers and then let the generic Microsoft CCID driver run the reader. It doesn’t support control codes but almost nothing uses them anyway.
right, so right click that and select uninstall and if asked to delete driver files, then yes you do want to delete them. after it’s gone, unplug the reader.. wait for 5 seconds.. then plug it back in. windows update should provide a generic CCID driver for it automatically.
yep. i can uninstall it, but then clicking “scan for hardware changes” the ‘unknown smart card’ pops back up in device manager, without having presented apex to the reader.
hmm well that’s not correct. it should only show a smart card device when there is a smart card on the reader (apex or other nfc). it should disappear on its own once you remove the tag from the reader.
so.. something is.. “messed up” with your system somehow. does the smart card device remain if you unplug the reader from the computer? you shouldn’t need to refresh it should just update on its own.
