Kick streaming?

Soo.. the wife has been suggesting I should do more to engage the world at large. She looked at all the methods and channels out there to actually make it worth doing, both from a monetization standpoint and from an actual engagement standpoint. She settled on Kick currently being the best option right now, which makes sense because I guess I could also just re-up those streams to a YouTube channel if I wanted.

My problem is this.. we have a great group.. lots of awesome people.. but I am 100% certain nobody wants to hear me drone on about nonsense for what could be at least several handfuls of minutes.. let alone watch me do that. My concern is two-fold; a) at any the random time I decide to hop on a stream, nobody will actually be live on chat, so no engagement.. or b) tons of people will show up to tell me they have chips and i’m working for aliens, the government, the devil, the lizard people, gangstalkers, electronic harassment agents, or the blue man group (stomp!)

Thoughts?

I dont know how kick works, but,

Do people get notified when you are online?

Not the same LIVE engagement, but,
Can people ask questions when you are offline?
and you can answer them when you re-visit.
Does it save your videos or is it live only?

I still don’t know how kick works, but

Can you block people?

Or you could just “give it a crack” and see how it goes

you never know, you might just educate some people

If you have an account and sub the channel then you can opt to be alerted to live streams via web notifications or app if you put it on your phone.

I don’t know.. maybe? It looks like the chat feature is active even while I’m not streaming.

I assume the videos are saved. Browsing other “streamer” profiles does show a kind of YouTube-like “videos” section, so I think it’s possible. What I don’t know is if the streamer has to pay for this long term storage / hosting of videos, because as I understand it, there are no ads.. it seems all money is made on the platform by subscribers “tipping” streamers, for which Kick takes a percentage.

I think so.. it would make sense to be able to do that since I get the sense that services like Kick and Twitch are a gnat’s hair above straight up OnlyFans etc.

Yeah I think this is something I might try. Almost every evening between like 10pm and midnight (Seattle time) I usually watch a collection of videos I’ve racked up throughout the day.. stuff people send me and stuff I find. It’s usually tech news, major news, other whatever content. I could start just watching those videos and making my dumb comments out loud instead of in my head.. see how that goes.

Today I actually thought about talking over one of the forum posts here.. just talking a bit about it, pontificating.. might be interesting. Dunno.

I are a very interesting human being at the forefront of implant technology. People want to see that. but you may be adding fuel to the conspitorialists flame. either way im.here for it.

Lots of popular streamers and youtubers are like that. Look up someordinarygamers on youtube. Seems like he could be your type of guy. Perhaps you could emulate him to some basic format extent?

I’m sure if you gave us 15 minutes notice, go make yourself a drink and collect your thoughts, a decent number of us would show.

And we would all get a laugh about it.. Or you could even give them a little teaching moment.

Is this something you are legitimately interested in pursuing?

Maybe you do want to do this, but streaming isn’t exactly your cup of tea. You do need some consistency to get any income at all from it. Maybe youtube-like videos would be better?

Maybe you are indifferent.

Maybe you’ve secretly wanted to be a streamer this whole time and you just made a whole company to gather enough traction to live your dreams?

Do what makes you happy, Amal.

If you want to ramble about random videos, I’m all for it.

Why Kick? You’re definitely going to get microchip conspiracy people there because it’s the platform for people with content that will get you banned on Twitch.

That makes sense… Considering that I’ve never heard of Kick before reading this thread.

oddly i just recently found that guy and started watching his stuff. i don’t think i’ve ever seen a video of his talking about games though hahaha

i’m not sure, but willing to give it a try. i definitely don’t like the idea of like “becoming a streamer” as a major focus of my endeavors, but i do kinda like the idea of talking through things i find interesting. i think i would also eventually like to invite other people to chat in like a remote interview kind of capacity.. eventually.

  1. it’s currently the highest payout platform around. if i’m going to expend effort to “become a streamer”, it has to be worth my time.. even if it’s just a few bucks here and there.

  2. mostly;

I feel like there is a lower chance of getting banned or kicked (pun!) talking about biohacking and implants there. again, if i’m going to bother setting myself up and putting real time (scarce supply) into this, i don’t want to have to spend much mental energy worrying it’s going to get taken down on a whim of some knee-jerk reacting risk analysis employee or worse some AI filterbot.

Never heard of Kick. Thought this thread was about kicking the streaming habit, which I’ve already done thankfully.

I know when I was hooked on YouTube I watched some folks who would defy the recommended formula and just make a really good video once every few months. Everyone knew it would be good so they’d always get consistent views and they did well. I don’t know how Kick works and I don’t a platform’s sorting feed between me and my videos, but if you make the occasional gem then you could cross-post it here.

I don’t engage with video content as consistently as text because then I have to go to the trouble of plugging in my audio and hitting “play” and because half the time its just YouTube telling me to sign in and I don’t want to, but if it’s a file with subtitles then I’m more likely to engage. Especially if you host a link to the video file itself for download so I can open it in my preferred media player.

I got rid of the official app on my phone as the shorts were getting in the way… Although I do enjoy longer videos and those don’t take over my time. Hence why I’m now using NewPipe.

I almost always have a pair of Aftershokz on my head, although I’d prefer an implanted audio solution. Still, bone conduction earphones are the closest thing available so that’s what I use.

I actually record my streams with my Shokz OpenRun Pro .. the first stream was shit because my input volume control was at like 15% .. just recorded a stream of me playing silent hill 2 for no other reason but to boost my stream time so i can get my good boy achievement.

Kick could work if expectations are set correctly. You do not need constant live chat for it to be valuable, since streams can be saved and reuploaded later. Engagement tends to grow over time rather than instantly. As for trolls, moderation and blocking are part of the platform, and the community you already have will likely set the tone. Trying a few low pressure streams is the easiest way to see if it fits without overthinking it.
