Long range reader (30cm)

Hi all, fairly new to RFID hacking but have undergone some training and implementing in physical pentesting so keen to hear more knowledgable voices wherever possible.

My main question is would it be possible to buy a long range reader (the type you use for vehicle gates) and retro fit an ESPKey and a cell of some sort to create a mobile detector that doesn’t require you to rub against someone to detect their badge’s credentials?

I’m sure someone has created something similar but would be keen to hear any suggestions / tell me if this is not worth trying.

Thanks!

Yes, I believe the guys at Red Team Alliance / Red Team Tools have made a few laptop bag formfactor ones.

You would need to buy a long range reader from the access control vendor you are targeting. There is no “generic” one fits all solution.

Make some ESPKEY’s , buy some long range readers, boost convert and battery and you got yourself a weaponized reader.

Thanks all, this gives me a lot of reading / learning to do! Will update if I manage to make something that works!

I have used several versions of this and they work great. To increase range I recommend moving the guts to another part of the bag and comment the antenna by extending the leads to the reader.

Here is an example of modifications and range extensions I do.

hey i came across your video around this time last year. sourcing a boscloner wasnt in my range, do you know if there is any open source equivilant? i have an HID-R90 i was going to use for this project but abandoned it until i could find something.
