Need help deciding on an implant

I’d like to get an implant that I can clone my work ID card onto (if that’s even possible), to mess with people, and also because it’d be really cool. Are there any chips that could do this?
Also, what’s the best chip to just save a short string of text for NFC enabled phones, 4 funsies? :smile_cat:

You need to give us more info about your tag, if your phone reads it use an app like NXP Tag Info and post screenshots of the specs.
If it doesn’t read with you phone then it’s probably low frequency.
Photos of the reader/card and manufacturer can help too.

Some but not all:
Any NFC (HF) chip that can do NDEF (almost all).
The XSIID has lots of storage and an LED.
The xM1 has a changeable UID (not really relevant in this case).
The spark2 doubles as a Vivokey authentication.

These are all glass capsules.
There are larger flex equivalents

Should I post screenshots of the full scan? And if so should I blur anything 4 security?

There are different levels of obfuscation you could use .
In reality, most are overkill, so go with what you feel comfortable.

The UID you could change, or swap for X’s etc

Yes, a screenshot will do, like what’s attached (edit: use TagInfo as Pilgrimsmaster suggests, not NFCTools as I am here). If you do feel like blurring something, the UID/SerialNumber would be the most likely “secret”. Here’s my left arm

Also, if this is your main goal, that’s awesome, just be aware there are a variety of spanners that may come into play, but also some options and solutions that we may be able to suggest.

Nothing is guaranteed to work, but we will give you the best information we can.

What I am skirting around is:-
whether the chip can be copied?
is there a suitable implant?
will it work with the reader?
will your bosses let you?
are there alternatives that can work with your system?
are you willing to get a slightly larger implant?etc.

Lets see how we go, and give this bitch a crack…

I really like NFC tools for all things NDEF etc.
But I would personally reccommend TagInfo for more reliable/accurate Chip identification results.

I cannot disagree with you there, taginfo is superior imo. Honestly that’s just what was on the phone I had in my hand at that moment (two phones).

Used NFC Tools rq cause it seemed much easier to share, but if anything’s missing from this list I can also share the xml and txt files I got from TagInfo

It says DesFire, so I’m going to say you probably won’t be able to clone it one to one. There is a DesFire implant, but you would probably need the blessing and help from your facilities/IT team to get it to open your work door.

The guys in IT are always coolin’ down there so they’d probably get a kick out of it, it’s the managers that probably wouldn’t find it such a good idea.

In any case, what’s the most barebones chip to just share text with NFC enabled smartphones? I’m not looking to use chips to unlock anything else so I just wanna put memes on it and stuff.

Considering getting one of those LED ones as well cause that looks like fun.

Ooh also, for the LED chips. Can they only be activated by readers on the same frequency? My knowledge about radio waves is seriously lacking.

The xNT will be your cheapest option at around $70. Just a tag, no blinkie.

The xSIID will effectively work the same, but with that pretty light, around $120.

Yes, so these will be things like tap-to-pay readers, your door readers at work, your phone… @Hamspiced sells some pretty sick field generators too, if I remember correctly.

The light is just attached to the chip in the implant, so whatever gives the chip power in the ~13.5MHz range will tickle the light’s fancy too.

Here you go.

And you can use ZINC on mobile to get a steady bright LED from a decent distance (phones only make it blink dimly unless the chip is being read so it makes it hard to show off whith)

I’m also days away from dropping the DIY version of my field generators. Holidays and stuff. But the diy version is pretty legit.

V2 of the field generators should be in before the new year so they will be back in stock soon hopefully.

However if you don’t want to buy another random thing and contribute to the e-waste empire. ZINC is phenomenal. The power scan utility I use all the time to light up my implants while I’m out.

OK, So you can’t clone a DESFire*

Here are a number (4) options for you

You could get yourself an implant and through your friendly administrators, you could get them enrolled

First choice
xDF2
BUT

  • Out of stock on the store (@tac0s might be able to find some if your lucky)
  • xSeries are NOT normally the best option for door readers
  • they not intimidating for an install

2nd Choice
FlexDF2

  • In Stock
  • Improved range over xSeries
  • Easy install, but looks more intimidating

3rd Choice
Custom work or Conversion Service

  • This will take your current card, and it will be converted into an implant
  • If the readers will read, it will work
  • you wont need to go through admins
  • You will be without your card for ~ a period of time
  • It will be a flex

4th Choice
*There are Magic DESFire cards, but you can only change the UID, so if any of the security features have been implemented, this wont work for you.
We would need to see a full scan to see if this has happened.

  • You can buy a card to test Magic DESFire
  • you will also need a pm3 to test it
  • if it works, you can follow Choice 3 above
  • You will not be without your original card whilst the conversion is done

My reccomendation is to go for 2nd choice:

  • speak to security admin, see if they are willing for you to BYO “card”
  • Grab yourself a FlexDF2
  • Enroll
  • install
  • Upgrade yourself, Become a cyborg and one of the cool kids

I hope this helps and makes sense.

Any questions, fire away

What all does ZINC do?

Would you recommend it?

I am 99.9% sure there are no x-series flavors of DESFire lying around. Maybe in six months we’ll have a small quantity. If it were me, I’d go with a flex because it’s available.
