to keep it simple its gonna be a modern side scrolling beat em up. set in my town, as we are feral as fuck. placing this here for accountability, so i actually do it, currently making assests, ive managed to convince chat gpt to convert photos to pixel art quite nicely, then ill move on to character sprites, we will be using godot 4
It will take time but im sure i can do this solo. (Unless anyone wants to help.) Ive found a comprehensive tutorial on the game style im making. I just need to redraw the assets. And theres lots of emā¦
Now all you need to do is scrape through the old Ted Talk videos and the youtube channel for audio samples. Run 'em through Piper to get a TTS file and you can have him say whatever you want in game.
1st 3 background images generated so far. Im getting 1 or 2 images a day before the limit gets me⦠But ive very happy with the quality so far. I have about 60 images to do for the first level/demoā¦
I feel bad for pixel artists, but that AI is making some good pixel art. I donāt think Iāve ever been this impressed by a generative modelās output. Iām running out of excuses not to take a go at a game or two Iāve had in mind.
well⦠i found a full 20 part tutorial . im hoping to follow the tutorial copy the code and just change the assets. and make it like 1600 x 900 pixels. so semi hd for a pixelated game, ( bit like streets of rage 4)
so the backgrounds come from converted photos. and will need to be stuck togeather to make a games backdrop. probibly in gimp. level one is about 70 photos, ( covers 1.2 irl miles) and ill propibly have to redraw the sprite sheets , but ill just chop up one of the concept art pics and make it follow the original sprite sheets, ( i may add more fraims for fluid movement)
as we all know i like to jump balls deep into things i have no prior experience of. ill either sink or sore.!
luckily i can stand on the shoulders of giants⦠i hope to get level 1/ demo out by Xmas,
im gona try play with ai image to animation⦠see if i can get some basic walk punk kick animations⦠then i can just turn that back into sprite frames
Oh! I havenāt seen generative models produce consistent enough results to combine back together into one piece, but if you animation transfer to a single sprite and then chop out just the frames you want, now that could work.
Your dive-in-and-do attitude continues to inspire me.
