whatcha-talking-about-w-illis-what-are-you-talking-about

Right, well, good question.
I done fucked up

If I had researched properly before purchasing I would have found that BOTH of these padlocks are passive NFC, utilising I2C and your phone’s NFC power to unlock.

TagInfo Result of Padlocks

Long story short, these are no good for our purposes.

If you want more info, Read on:- ( I’ll keep it pretty brief, since they are of no use to us )

TYPE 1

TYPE 2

Description

INTRODUCTION

Passive RFID Padlocks

CAPABILITY

The both, claim this

There are some tolerances between the shackle and the body, so the IP rating may not be accurate.
Ball bearings so likely not shimmable
Type one, plastic and an average -strong person could likely force it open by hand, as it is weak as piss

Type two Aluminium, with some heft, they claim 400kg, I would say a force of 200-400 KG would get it open

SOURCE

Don’t bother

PRICE

~ USD$20 with free shipping
Bizzarley, they seem to have the same internals, but the Type 2 has superior materials and yet was slightly cheaper :man_shrugging:

TEARDOWN

Nope, Couldn’t be bothered, I put them back in their boxes and likely, that is where they will stay

SUMMARY

Talking all into consideration, what is the Overview?

It does what it say on the tin!!! But I didn’t read the tin like a fucktard…
Not their fault, that’s on me
I would say theType 1 is roughly twice the cost it should be.
The app works fine, but again another you need an account to use.

CONCLUSION

Would you recommend it?
Not really for us, but if they worked with implants then sure
The Type one would be fine for a gym locker
Type Two you would put on a garden shed or similar

Oops

I had looked at those ones quite a bit, but skipped because reverse nfc powered :speak_no_evil:

Wished I had posted a bit more about that

I’m getting close to just saying screw it and getting one of the ones dev posted about… at least it can read a chip… I might be able to deal with the other stuff… his biggest complaint was the lower digital security

It’s all good, It was my bad, I just searched NFC Padlock saw those and with NFC printed on the lock was enough for my decision, into my cart they went and check out.

The “Type 2” Is actually a nice little lock, It’s a real pity it is not implant compatible.

I have a cabinet lock in a box waiting for a review and another one on the way, so we shall see how they go.
