Problem reading FlexUG4 [SOLVED] Move the lube packet!

I follow up with an update in here:
I now use my Flipper (with a MFGC v3 sticker and Momentum firmware) for everything on my FlexUG4. It is super reliable now and I haven’t had any issues now that I am using the newer NFC Magic app included in Momentum

But does your ug4 works on readers on hotells, work etc ?

Yes. It always worked well on them. Even when my Proxmark couldn’t read it.
Here’s a video of it opening a Hotel door:

Nice , I will try mine next week on hotell , work and camping site , hope it will work , otherwise it seems that there is something strange with the antenna on my ug4

An update!
I’m unable to get the readers on work to recognize my UG4 (MIFARE 4K, 4-byte UID), but the readers don’t seem to care as long as the ID is the same. It works with Chameleon Ultra, Flipper Zero, MIFARE 1K Gen1a ring, and an XM1. I’ve tried two different brands of readers.
The hotel, which uses MIFARE Ultralight EV1, works fine on all the readers.
At the gym, it works on 2 out of 3 readers from different brands.

Can I ask what readers you have at work? Maybe I (or someone else) can provide some suggestions for placement and orientation

Hi , here are pictures of the readers where i cant get my ug4 to work.

Thanks

Unfortunately this is the first time I’ve ever seen any of those readers. Hopefully someone else can help.

Me too.
But definitely seen very similar ones.

I’m not too surprised you are struggling to read on some of them, but #1 looks like a reasonable chance, and #4 after that, but you really cant tell untill you get hands on.

What diagnostic tools have you run over them?

is there a posibility to get some old/broken ones to disect?

#1 I searched for the sweet spot with an X Field Detector and then tried the UG4. When I found the sweet spot, the XM1 worked. My Chameleon Ultra, Flipper Zero, and NFC Ring (Gen1a) work without any problems at all, but never got any success on the UG4.

I’m thinking of buying a FlexM1 v2 to use with the MIFARE 1K instead. It’s disappointing that I can’t use the UG4 everywhere, as that was the original plan. My FlexM1 v1(now broken) worked without problems on all readers for MIFARE 1K, so I assume the v2 will work at least as well. Can anyone confirm?

Unfortunately the x field detector is primarily meant to show the best location and orientation for x series implants, which are cylindrically shaped antenna coils. The flex series are not shaped this way, so the x field detector isn’t necessarily going to give the best result.

That said, x series must be presented to the reader antenna in such a way that it crosses over the reader antenna coil lines (perpendicular to), but the long narrow shape of the flexUG4 basically requires that it be presented parallel to the reader antenna coil lines. So, in this way, it should be obvious that if you present the x field detector at a specific angle (orientation), and get a string light from it, then you’ll want to present the flexUG4 in that exact spot, just rotated 90 degrees. Make sense?

Hi amal !
Yes , thats clear and make sense due to the antenna on xm1, I have tried all possible angles, but does not get a reading from UG4
Do you know if the Flexm1 v2 will work better that UG4 ?

Thanks Danne

Before we rule it out,
Using MCT can you try a
“compare dump”
between A working card/fob and your UG4

Let me know if you need a “how to” on MCT

I can kinda sorta almost answer that for you.

I have a FlexM1 gen2
and
the original FlexM1V2 prototype (so its not EXACTLY the same)
but what I can tell you is, the range is very comparative, which is surprising considering the size difference between them, there must be a sprinkle of magic in the antenna design of the V2’s.

If your goal is a set and forget and it only gets used for these locks or the occasional other MF1k locks, then the FlexM1V2 would be a good option for you.

Plus if they read your xM1, they will almost certainly read the FlexM1V2.

Hi , I use my flipper zero to get the dump, and then write to chamelon , ug4 , gen1a , xm1, and tried to emulate from flipper zero , so the dumps seems fine !

Oki ,sounds nice ! , do you thing I can place it like this ?
Or is it to close ?

If you’re happy, that’s cool.

I personally really like MCT because the compare tool is REALLY clear

Looks fine to me
PLUS
If you are having issues when you are specifically targetting the UG4, then you should be fine when you are tying to avoid it.

It’ll mostly come down to how you try to present it.

ALSO
If possible, go for a shallow install.

I tried to compare the Flipper Zero with the Ring and found a 0% difference. I also compared the ring with the UG4 and found a 4.3% difference. However, it took much longer to read from the UG4.

Shouldn’t the reader(site) give some response even if the code is incorrect? For example, when I tried my payment ring on the reader, I got a “Bzzz…” response.

THAT is exactly why I LOVE MCT

So you clearly need to try another write to get your 100%
