Proxmark3 easy and mac os

Hello Forum,

First of all, thank you very much for the welcome and all this information.
But I’m at a loss at the moment and have been for several days.
The following problem: I can’t establish a connection to proxmark3 easy, i.e. when I enter pm3 in the terminal, nothing happens.
I have also looked at which USB ports are addressed but nothing is listed from iceman, pm3 or proxmark etc…
Even when I connect the proxmark3 easy, the white LED is off and the red LED flashes briefly.

What can I do?
About my system
MacOS Monterey V12.2.1
Intel core i5

Thanks for your help
Kind regards
Bones

which guide did you follow?

this one?

https://github.com/RfidResearchGroup/proxmark3/blob/master/doc/md/Installation_Instructions/Mac-OS-X-Homebrew-Installation-Instructions.md

Also have you tried “the ol’ holding the button for 30 sec whilst flashing trick”?

Short answer yes

When I want to flash the pm3 with pm3-flash-all the terminal give me the message “waiting for Proxmark3 to appear” and I also hold the button at this time for then 30 sec.
And that’s all nothing will happen anymore…

I stopped it and tried this

proxmark3 /dev/tty.usbmodemiceman1 --flash --unlock-bootloader --image /usr/local/share/proxmark3/firmware/bootrom.elf --image /usr/local/share/proxmark3/firmware/fullimage.elf

And sorry for the bad English sometimes im from Germany
Have a great Day for me is now Bedtime

Applying the last comment in this thread did the trick for me. I got a proxmark3 easy off of aliexpress.

Copying the comment here:

if you end up here… brew reinstall proxmark3 --with-generic is the way to fix this . this happens because you have a proxmark3 easy device but you have installed proxmark3 rdv4 with brew. that’s why your device is flashed with rdv4 firmware and not booting. after re installing correct version of your device, re flash your device and it will work this time.

Hi all,
Out of curiosity, I bought a device from ebay called a proxmark 3 max kit. It appears to be a 3 easy with a micro and C port, both of which are wired for data now. I’ve tried to google more about these, but apart from the title of this thread, I found nothing!
I’ve had a number of different proxmarks over the last year orr few, and no real problems, but this one is, odd!
In the ebay listing, they give a link to
V0.2.8-win64-rrg_other-v4.16717.7z
which turns out to be what looks like a quite old compile of iceman.
It didn’t work, no volts on eather antenna and command timeouts if I tried something like
lf t55 det
So, I tried it with my latest, today iceman build that I use with the 3 easy, and same problem.
It flashes fine and is obviously communicating perfectly ok, but no joy at all!

So, Can anyone tell me, Do I have a faulty unit, or is there some special compile of iceman or other fw for the max kit that I haven’t found yet, bearing in mind, I first tried the one they linked in the listing?
I’d have thought you’d communicate with it same as any other 3 easy, but maybe not???

hmmm… the only thing i can think of is that the screw posts arent screwed in. do you have a multimeter handy?

Not off hand, but all the screws and posts are definitely tight! Also, it’s affecting both the lf and hf antennas, and from what I can see, the hf is part of the main board.
Also, the lf t5 det gets a request timed out error, which I’ve never seen on any other proxmark I have. My feeling is that it’s some kind of interfacing problem somewhere inside the device, maybe wrong flash or something, or, as I said, perhaps it’s a faulty board, I just bought it, so it’s never been seen to work yet!
I guess the thing I’m trying to figure out, is, does the 3-max require a special build, or should it work with the same builds as the 3 easy does?
There’s just nothing out there except the same description on ebay, and apart from giving a link to an old iceman that also doesn’t work on it, there’s nothing else I can find!
It might be a bit embarrasing to return it if it’s fine, but I’m getting more convinced that it’s faulty.
I bet the seller won’t have a clue eather way!!!

You got pix of this Frankenstein monster?

When i started looking for the inexpensive proxmark i wanted i found a LOT of different variants of the PM3. Ones with screens, one with a keyboard, one with a rotary knob. In reading reviews of these or searching that particular one.

Proxmark3 Max Reddit”

I ended up going with the Proxmark3X since some reputable places had it and it was relatively positively reviewed.

The others with screens i saw people had issues trying to flash it since the stock Iceman repo doesnt (or didnt when i was looking) contain the code for the OLED.

I can try to look around and see if there are any repo’s for that.

Here’s the ebay link I bought it from, then you know as much as I do, which isn’t a lot

There are stacks and stacks of listings but nothing in the forums, Scratches head!!!

Oh my god…

Return it.

I… i dont even…

So when i started to look around i came across this video… im 3min in and just… just return it…

If you’re stubborn, ill try to help, but this is a mess…

Heres the Git for it. GitHub - rfidreadermaker/proxmark3-max

GUI/I can't brush the point where the firmware can't connect.bat

:joy:

this repo is hilarious

It’s a mess, all of it is a mess

Ahhh, thanks for the links and video, Yes, I agree, it’s a joke, all this solderring and not even a set of dip switches or jumpers or something!
I think google hates me, I didn’t find eather of those myself.
As I said, I just bought it out of curiosity, as I have easy’s, rdv4, and even an icopy x, but at least they all work and do useful things!!!
At least it was only about $60 aus, but, back it go’s I thinks!!!
It really doesn’t deserve to be called proxmark, definitely suspect there’ll be barrages of posts coming on these as china seems to have dumped stacks of these things on unsuspecting ebay sellers and buyers!
Thanks everyone!

I’m sure we could get it working, port it to the newest release, but honestly the hoops you would jump through after. Nah. I love my pm3x, I definitely recommend it if you want usb-c and Bluetooth

Well, the silly part is that it wouldn’t even work with the build they specifficly mention on the listings. so one has to wonder! It still might be a faulty unit, but I really don’t want to buy another of them to check that! I’m happy with the 3 easy’s I have, and the rdv4 which if I recall has usb-c too! anyway I bet someone comes on here one day with a max and more enthusiasm that I’ve got, so perhaps it’ll get worked out at some stage!
It does seem to me that something internal just isn’t communicating using the flash images I’ve tried, as it talks to the client and flashes fine, but never sees voltages or command responses on some level.
so, it’s eather not compatible or busted!!!
One day maybe!!!
On the other hand if you guys are curious enough, and sufficiently bord, we could try working on it!!!
