Proxmark3 Not Detecting Fob (LF or HF)

Hi All,

Long time reader, first time poster here.

About a month ago, I tried to help my brother copy his condo fob that opens his unit door using my proxmark3. The weird thing was that my proxmark wouldn’t pick up the fob whenever I used tune or detect commands, no matter if it was LF or HF.

The condo also provides a phone app that opens the door as well so I thought it might be an NFC fob but my NFC app didn’t pick it up either.

I won’t be able to troubleshoot as I’m currently on vacation and the fob and proxmark are in 2 different cities but it has been on the back of my mind for a while. Has anyone heard of anything like this before?

Hi there

If its app based, it’s likely bluetooth.

Can you get your brother to send you a photo of both the fob and the lock?

Also ask him to download and scan the fob with TagInfo

It’s hard to see the fob lettering but it begins with CP and then some numbers.

TagInfo doesn’t react to it at all unfortunately.

Well, That’s quite a great super helpful picture of mostly a hand with a fob somewhere in it, plus a wall, with a black rectangle on it showing very little detail.

Please forward this on to your brother

The Good News

There is a very strong likelihood that this reader is Low Frequency (125kHz), BUT there are exceptions.
You dont happen to have a field detector do you?

IF it is LF, then it SHOULD be very easy to copy.

Sometimes fob placement on a Proxmark can be tricky.

When you return from your vacation, post some photos of how you are placing the fob on the LF antenna
also share the commands you are using
