Hey y’all, I’m trying to do the classic thing of using my implant as a motorcycle key. I have the xAC Access Controller v4 (from Dangerous Things) working with my xM1 Magic implant (also from Dangerous Things) but I’m having a hard time understanding how I can actually use the xAC to allow the bike to power up.
Really what I’m stuck on currently is that when the xAC “sees” my implant, all it does is short the common and NO wires together, which I’m not really sure what to do with that. I thought that when the xAC scanned my implant, it would output a little bit of power that I could use with a relay to let 12v through. Can someone help me out here?
Most helpful thing I’ve found so far is this post, but it would completely remove the ability to use the key, which I’m not sure I want to do just yet.
PS, I’m posting this both on Reddit and the Dangerous Things forum so it reaches more people; I’ll share any info I get between both posts
I’m gonna go try that and be really upset with myself if it’s that obvious
Update, tried connecting the common to 12v+ and it seems to short out the board… at least I think that’s what’s happening bc the LEDs turn off and the board doesn’t beep and scan my chip until I cycle the power
There’s as many ways to do this as you can imagine. I’ll give you two simpler ones.
a. You keep the key, but hook the starter solenoid up to the xAC reader. Basically it stays normal, but requires your hand (chip) to start. The xAC replaces your starter button in this configuration.
b. You need to look into Latching Relays. These are relays that stick into it’s last position. If you added one to the xAC, then the first scan would put the latching relay ON, and stay there when you weren’t scanning your hand. If you scanned a second time, it would go to OFF, and kill the bike. The xAC/latching relay replaces your ignition ON/OFF switch in this configuration.
The xAC does have a relay, and it can be used from COM to either / and NO or NC.
