Show Off What's it gots in it's pocketses?

Oh noooo.

So when I first put my xg3 in I read horror stories. And someone on the forum said they waited literally 6 months before they started playing with it. I did the exact same. I was terrified of this thing getting rejected or pushed out

According to my measurements my encapsulation took a bit over 3 months if I recal correctly.
6 might be a bit too much but better safe than sorry

Looks super cute. How strong is the magnet? I would be worried about it detaching in a backpack or a pocket

Baaahahah, too true though.

I could add some pliers to my tools, and was thinking about getting a multitool. Locally, I can easily find the ones from CAT and Victorinox but Leatherman might also be an option. And I’m also thinking about ordering a Gerber.

I’d love to get something with a built-in crimper and decent screwdrivers. What would you EDC borgs’ recommend?

Been carrying a Leatherman Wave for like 15+ years now clipped to pocket. Had to send it in once for broken prybar screwdriver (Don’t use the screwdriver bit to pry things kids! Use the right tool for the right job!). Think they have either lifetime, or 25year warranty.

Cargo pocket has pouch with other pliers (I love Knipex for the “I’m not asking any more” usage that the leatherman can’t handle), prybar, Leatherman bit set and driver thingy, small notebook/pen, scissors etc. And that’s totally not a set of lockpics and common keys.

I reallly like the leatherman bit set, fits a lot of the common sized stuff I need to fiddle with, but it is a low-torque system. They’re flat so store nicely but have a greater chance of slippage in both the driver and screw.

Crimper-wise, it’s just got the basic cutter. I’ve used the pliers end to crimp when I really needed to, otherwise work bag has dedicated crimps in it.

I also considered this thing but hate the name. Cough cyber cough cough tool… With that name, it better be implantable, call it the cyborg tool…

And the pliers are a bit small for what I’m looking for. Still, this is the only multitool type thing that has a set of crimpers.

Do you know of any ones with these requirements:

  • Small
  • Pocket clip
  • bottle opener
  • preferably tanto blade

I have the Kershaw shuffle 2 which ticks all this boxes and is decent (other that it doesn’t hold its edge very well). I also like the shape that you can use like a prying bar (it’s beefy).
But the fact it’s made in China bothers me greatly and the style is a bit too agressive for my taste. I’d love something more modern and classy but still solid.

I use the back side of my tanto as a bottle opener.

But lately I carry an otf automatic from Normandy knives.

Locking blades are not allowed in Europe. I still do carry exclusively that and it’s mostly ok but the retractable kind is particularly frowned upon (also not my favorite, I like the swingy motion more than the stabby one)

The swing spring assisted ones I only ever carried cold steel or Sog.

The price tag for cold steel was steep but it held an edge better than anything else I carried. And this was with rigorous use in the oil fields. No bottle opener though. Just use the back of the tanto and twist

small is subjective
My Mrs and I have different scales of measure… but whatever…

I do like a folder and would NEVER carry a non locking blade.

We have had this chat before. and yes, it still doesnt fold, but heres my reply anyway.

I do also have a preference for fixed blades.

One that gets close to your criteria.

It is small for a fixed blade

My favoute tip :smirk: is also a Tanto style.

This one is like a hybrid, tanto, sheeps foot, drop point.

I also like a bit of serrations on my edge.

It is made by Gerber, for which I have had mixed results, but this one has served me well.

The overall length is about 180mm, which half is blade, so in a belt or pocket, there is only the handle half showing.

Gerber Epic

Some blurb stuff

No red beam, but I’ve daily carried a Streamlight Macrostream USB for over a year now. You can replace the battery too, if that wears out, though mine has not (Battery PN 66321). 500 lumens I think on high, 130(?) on low.

That’s a nice light! I eventually settled for one without the red beam and got a ThruNite T1S V2 which has a bit of a green tint to it but is overall pretty good. I’d like a better CRI but this is pretty insignificant.

Yeah, my expectations from lights are pretty simple:

-Throwable (Won’t break from daily use)
-Rechargable by normal means (USB)
-Brightish and dimish mode (battery life vs blind factor)

I don’t have a ton of experience with different lights, but the streamlight on my rifle was holding up, so this helped my decision.

Olight is pretty solid too, but I heard they can be a little less durable over time (larger lights)
