Today I learned that medical cyanoacrylate âsuperglueâ is chemically different from off the shelf superglue. It has more carbon atoms in it which reduces breakdown into toxic metabolites and increases polymer chain lengths which improve flexibility to better move with skin.
NGL, I need a better lab⊠Although I canât justify stuff like that⊠![]()
Thought the same TBH. The fallout of that meme is strongâŠ
That required no further explanation, or at least I understood what you meant perfectly.

Huh, well looks like I should go buy the real stuff. I assumed it was the same
Me too. Iâd love a c02 and fiber laser
Lol, thatâs because Iâm an amazing orator with a keen mind. More bits good. Hard shape is more bits in smaller space than soft shape. No bend. Much same all over.
Thatâs why you need friends with labs that fill the gaps in your capabilities. Itâs our lab, comrade.
And also because weâre both in the field of fieldsâŠ

Just donât expropriate my labâŠ
The funniest part of this, is that thatâs accurately how language works in a microcosom.
Talk to machinists and they use an informal numbering system that moves the decimal place 3 places to the right (when in inches, not sure about metrickey shorthand). So .015 becomes 15. IE, Iâm gonna open up the hole about 15 so that Iâll have plenty of clearance. You also get weird phrases, like âTry shaving a nickel off of itâ A.K.A âcut .005 offâ.
Doctors, engineers, lawyers, plumbers, welders, everybodyâs got their own perfectly fine and understandable internal lingo, thatâs absolute garbage to everyone else.
Or you could just say remove 127um and everyoneâs happy ![]()
The thou is not informal as far as I know. Itâs often used for PCB design as well, but some EEs prefer to work with 2.54âŠ
Welp, this could be interestingâŠ
Confirmation before I start making plans with my installer:
Watch is pushed as far up my arm as it will go for demonstration and âbufferâ purposes. Usually closer to my hand (I need to take a link out honestly, Iâve lost a few lbs).
Implant will be a FlexDF2 for access control and NDEF storage.
Is there any problem with this install location? Any at all? I could potentially switch arms, I only wear a thin bracelet there. Other suggested locations that donât risk lots of bending? I donât plan to remove this for many many years, so Iâd like to make it last as long as it is technologically relevant.
possibly? if you do this location then put the incision the furthest away possible from your watch.
âU.S. law strongly protects social media companies from â liability for what is on their platforms, but the plaintiff in the Los Angeles proceeding focused on platform design rather than content.â
Exactly. The medium is the message. The users are responsible for the content they post, but the platform is responsible for what kinds of content and behaviour the platform design encourages or discourages - what kind of an effect the platform design has on its users.
They mentioned infinite scroll, beauty filters, and content dangerous for children. Theyâre only scratching the tip of the iceberg compared to the harm recommend feeds can potentially do. But if these lawsuits change things, will it be a change towards less coercive social media, or just a change as to who controls that coercion? The government uses child safety as an excuse to increase its power, but however much power its given it never seems that the protection of children is what it uses that power for.
We have to keep making our own decisions about these platforms. God help the masses who donât. I can hope the law actually helps them, but Iâm not betting on it.
Iâm not entirely sure the onus should be shifted off the user.
âThink of it like alcohol: we have strict advertising standards and age restrictions, and as a society, weâve developed a level of âacceptableâ use. We place restrictions on how itâs consumed, yet we still donât hold the manufacturer liable for an individualâs decision to drink nor their subsequent addiction.
âAdmittedly, social media has a unique layer because of targeted algorithms designed to keep people engaged. But that bias could be neutralized through better education and the genuine ability to opt out of those specific design features.
Donât get me wrongâsocial media disgusts me, and I believe itâs played a major role in the downfall of society.
I have ZERO interest in any of it and I wish it didnt exist
âFrom my own observations, seeing people âdoom-scrollâ leaves me feeling both disappointed and confused. I have the same reaction to alcohol or drug addictions; I struggle to understand why people allow themselves to fall into these cycles. I realize that since I donât have these addictions myself, itâs easy for me to say âjust donât do it,â but I genuinely donât see why more people canât simply choose to stop.
âAt the end of the day, an individual can still choose to opt out of the platform entirely. That remains a personal choice, even if the design makes it difficult.
Take the following with a pinch of salt as Iâm using âstatsâ from memory, so it may or may not be a 100% correct.
But I believe itâs something like only 10% of substance addicts know they are addicted. however 40% of young adults are aware they are addicted to Social Media but dont attempt to change their habit / addiction.
People need to start taking responsibility for their own decisions / actions
IMHO, the education provided by the current school system is mediocre at best⊠In way too many places, if not all, students are expected to memorize facts, formulas, and procedures. But the epistemology, observations, and logic behind them are rarely covered.
This creates a significant level of deference to experts at all levels, and people who limit themselves to small incremental change.
There will always be a remnant of people who reject that and choose to think for themselves, to dig deeper, to read, to seek actual understanding, and to push boundaries, but these rebels are a minority. A very important minorityâŠ
And those rebels are very different from the idiots who replace the set of âexpert authoritiesâ in their minds, and end up following conspiracy theorists and other types of quacks. Needless to say that those quacks are really good at projecting a trustworthy image of authority and certainty, and I suspect that most of the followers of that are using a significant part of their schooling when believing the nonsense.
Anyways, I think that Iâm taking Pilgrimâs self deprecating humor a little too seriouslyâŠ
