The anti🚫-derailment🚃 & thread🧵 hijackingšŸ”« thread🧵 ⁉

It was an ethernet cable before. Slower but these random crashes were not happening.

What distro are you running?

3 minutes into the second season of Squid Game and the protagonist realises he’s being tracked without his knowledge so he feels around and discovers he has something behind his ear. Digs it out with a box cutter and it’s a glassie.

Here we go again… More fodder for the tinfoil hat brigade!

Let then have their fun on this. Better they focus on something they cannot change, than something they can.

im running Debian (raspi) 12 (bookworm) with a fresh install (and SD) and a fresh update all on a pi4B+

I see the camera though: v4l2-ctl --list-devices

rpivid (platform:rpivid):
        /dev/video19
        /dev/media0

But libcamera-vid --list-cameras doesnt list anything
No cameras available!

Im getting lost, i followed the direction from Arducam a few time, and tried it on a different SD (fresh install) with no success. Also tried a different Pi, at this point, the only hardware i have not changed is the camera itself …

The ā€œShow off using implantsā€ thread is a vid only, so here’s just a pic… FlexSecure (Kong’s skateboard, cloned to my Yubikey), a reader under the DiY desk, and a MFGC under the pad…

Type in KeePassXC password, roll my arm a bit to the side until it beeps then click Unlock. It’s far enough off to the side it doesn’t accidentally scan. Reader is stickied upside down so the MFGC is needed to scan from the top side. It’ll read from about 1.5" above the desk.

Much easier than trying to cross-arm and scan my ApexFlex in the back of my left hand.

  • 120 red fire ants

  • Six average-sized cherry tomatoes

  • Three shiny petticoat buttons

@StarGazer1258 might have some ideas, he does networking professionally. I’ve dabbled but wanted to put my head through the wall when implementing vlans. Props to network engineers, shits not easy

All preferable to any metric unit(s).

I’m looking into this. The DAC cable that I have claims to be passive and SFP+ is supposed to be a standard.

I have a hypothesis regarding the ip neighbors functionality since I had a long name configured on the SFP+ interface of the router. I guess that I could try a shorter name or disabling this feature for the time being.

And if that’s the case, I should look into disabling that on the switch… I’m kinda hoping that it’s not something with a vulnerability smell…

I was summoned?

Don’t know much about Zyxel switches. I’ve only encountered one in my career so far.

That said, my suggestions would be:

  • Check logs, on both switches.
  • Also check error counters on the interface, both sides.
  • Since you mentioned it’s a passive cable, how long is the cable? Passive DAC cables are only really good for short distances. ~6m max, IIRC.
  • What’s the brand of cable as well, some cheap brands might be prone to failures or DOAs.
  • Definitely see if you can find compatibility matrixes for your switch/cable. Sometimes certain manufacturers can be picky. There may be a configuration option to override compatibly warnings, but that won’t guarantee that it will work.

Will do, hopefully the zyxel doesn’t log to ram.

ā€œipolexā€ I assume that this is a no name Chinese brand.

It worked without any warnings, but I was getting weird crashes with that cable so I’m back to a regular ethernet cable for the time being. I’ll rename the interfaces hoping that I’m right and try again. After checking the logging configuration, of course.

Not sure but could be a faulty cable.
I got my DAC cables from fs.com, I’d recommend them for sure.

For shits and giggles:

1-Inspect and reseat your ribbon cable

2-With a different SD card, install raspi-OS or whatever that’s called these days, just see if that happens to pick it up. If you don’t have a different card, this is not critical, but could help.

Ive tried it a few time, but i get teh exact same result … even tried a different pi just in case (I don’t have another arducam to test). That why im thinking i am missing something … (probably dumb once i figure it out)
