Unfortunately not. I did order one and went to get it installed on Thursday only to be told that my tragus has a particularly difficult anatomy and that my piercer doesnt feel confident enough to try. Props to him though for admitting that.
Aparently, there are 2 ways to get a magnet installes in the tragus:
The easy way, where they just put it it under the skin besides the cartilage. Easy for the piercer and not anatomy-dependant. The sound quality is worse though.
You can also split the cartilage in the tragus and implant it into the cartilage. Requires a lot more skill. The sound quality should be a lot better though.
So definetly go check with your installer first.
I, for now, am not sure how to proceed. He referred me to a more experiences bodymod artist in Cologne, but traveling there ia a) not cheap and b) takes time which i currently dont have a lot of. Maybe my local piercer can be persuaded to use me as a test subject and try anyways…
Yes we are allowed to discuss individual professionals, but it is preferred that you do not make any unsubstantiated negative accusations. Matters of opinion are fine (“I felt like he didn’t really listen to me”, “She was more interested in getting paid than giving me care instructions”, “They put the implant in the wrong person”…) If you have a negative experience it is best to raise it privately with DT if it is someone on the map first. That is not to say we don’t want to hear negative reviews, just not wild allegations.
Edited to add: This is not to say that there is anything wrong with Ganesha body art/Martin Krause in Cologne. I have not heard anything about him at all.
That’s a bit mixed up in my profile, sorry - Arnulf is from stigmata-inc.de, in Cologne, and he’s the guy for all my “special” mods (like subdermal implants, scarification and all this kind of fun). Thomas from Anatomie is my “regular” piercer in my hometown, but he also installs xSeries, so I thought I could add him on my profile.
To be honest, I don’t know him. Arnulf was recommended to me by my piercer, simply because he is a skilled artist and also someone I feel very connected to, in a way. We’re the same kind of crazy, as my piercer said
To the general topic: If I am very happy with someone’s work, I usually spread the word about that - others might profit from that experience, and I’m always happy to “acquire” some new customers for them. That’s not only about bodymods - I know a great carpenter as well, and I always recommend him
So I’d say, if you’re happy, spread the word. If not, first step would be talking with the artist about what went (possibly) wrong. And if an artist turns out to be a total asshole, or does things that actually risk your health because of bad practice, it’s something to tell as well, to protect others and sort out the few “black sheep” so to say.
My plan was to use the same amplifier board as you did!! I just wanted to stitch it into the trapezius area (or collar) of the xBT jacket I’m designing! Kinda like my little iron man suit lol…
Also would like to add a HF antenna to the wrist so my gauntlet will light up!
Ganesha body art is about 30min on foot from Köln central station, alternatively you can take the train for 2 more stops. Its a rather inconspicuous place, so i of course walked right past it.
Even though i was about 30min early, he immediately dealt with me. After the usual paperwork and a preliminary examination, he led me to the “operating room”. It looked very orderly, nothing alarming.
He thoroughly desinfected my ear, put one of these surgical masks on and got to work.
I did not at all expect what he did to my ear. The initial cuts were normal. Then he started pushing and shoving so hard with the instruments that i had to actively push my head against his movements. Afterwards he explained that that was for splitting the cartilage (he could explain every step, so i trust that he knows what he is doing). In the end, everything looked and felt fine, but sometimes it felt like the instrument would break through my skull at any time.
All in all, we were done in 15 min.
The price was surprisingly cheap. He gave me the usual tips and materials for aftercare.
So far, i can definetely recommend him.
Now that i have the implant, i only have to find out how to effectively use it.
100€
He told me he would usually charge ~200€ for a Walletmor, so i think the 100€ were an exception because thats how much my usual piercer, who referred me to him, would take.
But it never hurts to ask, maybe my assumptions are wrong.
