Once upon a time, I had great NFC range on my Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
I had an opportunity to get $1000 off plus 25% off the rest, so of course I took the upgrade! The $1000 off was to ship in my pixel 10 pro fold.
Now I have set up my pixel 11 pro fold. It is nice, not a whole lot different, better tensor, better specs, etc…
AND THE DAMN NFC ANTENNA MOVED TO INSIDE THE FRONT SCREEN AND IT ONLY WORKS WITH CARDS LAYING HORIZONTAL ON THE TOP OF THE PHONE. I CANNOT GET A SINGLE X SERIES OR FLEX SERIES TO SCAN WITH MY NEW PHONE. I AM GOING TO HAVE TO RETURN THIS ABOMINATION!!!
Ahem it’s a great phone if you don’t have NFC implants
RDC yes, X SERIES Nothing. Both my flex secure and apex flex nothing. The only one it read without anything and no case was the xSIID.
Only the DT card lights up when you set it on the top of the phone like a card reader. But the antenna is lame.
The only way I got it to read was stick an NFC repeater sticker directly on top perpendicular to the phone…I.e. the sticker was the top cross to the T it made.
I just initiated a return…great phone though snappy and light. Kinda sad ..
I tried putting one on the back, and couldn’t get it to read. I have a repeater sticker. I’ll try again even though I already started the return. If I can get it to work then I might undo my return…
There’s no room to put the sticker where the antenna is because the camera cluster is in the way you can put it over to the side kind of but I only BARELY get signal using it when like half of the sticker is sticking off the top of the phone.
It seems very much like they’re trying to copy what the iPhone is doing.
Maybe for these new top read devices it’s worth making a repeater sticker that moves the antenna to the back. Put the pad on the edge of the coil in such a way that the sticker can be folded then placed with the pad on the top edge of the device and the coil on the back. Maybe there are not enough of these kinds of devices being used to bother due to cost but I’m sure some folk would appreciate the option. @Hamspiced what do you think?
Yeah I think it’ll need something like that, but for the fold it’s hard because the antenna is in the front screen area. So when you open the phone the wire from coil A has to run down the top edge and curve around the folded area and place it in the back.
At that point it makes more sense to create a phone case that does it. I was trying to map out coiling wires in my dbrand grip case and making my own then realized I hadn’t slept in 30 hours so I should probably go to bed.
I am sad, but I’ll wait until someone else solves it and maybe Pixel 12 pro fold…
