I uploaded it to my Etsy store, but if anyone here wants one, I can manually ship one through my Printify account so it’s at cost. Would be $27-31 depending on size including shipping. Printify is fuckin expensive, I’ve gotta find another POD service if I actually want to sell shit through Etsy haha
If anyone has experience with other PODs let me know!

As long as the screws are easily available and work well, I don’t see a problem.

I was working with a guy today who is helping me get up to speed with the laser for glass and other uses, and he mentioned this design looks great but would be good also to have a depth stop ring around so every time you place it into the chuck, it’s going to the same depth into the chuck. Basically it’s like a guard of a sword… but an entire ring… something like this;

sorry for the terrible drawing haha but you get what I mean? That way I can insert it into the chuck and it will butt up against the ring / “depth stop” every time, so then I can just load up my laser profile for whatever glass I’m working with and it will all be aligned and ready to go every time.

I still have a package to send you, in it I’m including a 1/4 hex extension

I was using the hex as a bottom stop reference,

I can try and add in what your asking, but essentially what you want is a T shape, which doesn’t print good without supports, and supports may make that ledge rough and inconsistent

I’ll show some pictures later and try to get that package in the mail tomorrow

Why not a through hole you can put a pin in to be that depth stop.

Or lengthen the hexagonal bit to reach the back of the chuck?

You could print it with a built in support

See my fantastic CAD diagram below
(away from my PC at the moment)

and rotate around centre

effectively giving you a shape like this

This will add strength to the stop, and also the larger surface area to stabilise and ensure it sits at right angles.

obviously it will still need some supports that can be removed. and will need a little post processing

Are you using your resin printer?

I actually have access to an SLS printer and can print some of these up ( Will not need supports )

@Eriequiet I’m assuming you are not using SolidWorks for your design.
Can you take a screen shot showing all dimensions, to save me design time.
Or if you throw the cone on it ( like my suggestion above ), could you send me through the STL, and I’ll get them printed even sooner.
@mrln if you think that design will help you also, I’ll print you one (or more) off also

It “was”. This was a long print, machine def needs some maintenance and tlc after.

Re: the depth stop thing. I know my input is probably not needed but IIRC printing threads is not too difficult. So why not add a threaded nut to the outside of the part. That keeps it concentric in the chuck and allows it to have an adjustable depth stop.

It’s a good idea, but the focus is on eliminating as many variables as possible to increase repeatability. Adding threads and a nut that can come out of adjustment over time is contrary to the goal unfortunately. Ability to adjust the depth stop is a benefit, just not a needed benefit for this project.

Ok this is what I was thinking along the lines of

Installed into your chuck like

And then the bits fit tightly (assuming you pick the right size) and it inserts in and indexes off the bottom of the hex bit so your depth is always the same

Remove hex bit after laser and reinsert next piece

Not for the ones I already printed but I might print an entirely different set in resin since @mrln seems pleased with his set in resin

I was trying to avoid supports, not because supports are a pain, but because any post processing you do scan cause some variance part to part from the blemishes of supports or support removal

Granted it may be less than negligible and only a couple .thou but that was what was in my head

Also shipping from the us to Germany is always so expensive…

For me that’s not needed because I only have one diameter of glass so I don’t need to remove the printed insert.

The current version works perfect for me.
