Hello,
New to the forums and cloning with pm3. What kind of tag is this and what blank tag would I need to purchase to be able to successfully clone?
Thanks.

Hi! Have you tried scanning it with your phone using NXP’s TagInfo? If nothing shows up, it’s probably LF. Putting it on the Proxmark’s LF antenna and running “lf search” should help in that instance
Thanks for the reply. I haven’t the tag with me physically unfortunately. I’ve started a new business cloning. This is a picture from a customer.
Imagine the tag you sent like a pill case.
If you send a doctor s picture of a pill case and ask if the pill is safe to take the doctor says he needs to see what pills are inside.
Same goes for these fobs. You need to scan it to know what chip is in there first
this is generic we can’t tel by looking at
you are getting paid for this why should we do your job for you
I, for one, admire the entrepreneurial mindset. Just have a few pointers for you.
Make sure it is legal for you to be cloning that tags that you are. Just like copying keys, some are illegal/against contract to copy. Some jurisdictions may even require a locksmithing license.
Do some research on your product and service first. Customers will want you to be able to identify and clone the tags without having to rely on the internet. At the very least, research the most common types of tags and how to clone them with your equipment. This forum is a great place to start. Just use the search bar or look around at different topics and get a feel for things. Keep in mind that some types of tags will not be clonable, and you need to be able to identify these as well.
You’ll need to obtain some basic gear for cloning. Some easily available and inexpensive options would be a ProxMark3, Flipper Zero, or even just your smart phone to start out. (Although a phone will be very limited in the types of tags it can clone.) These will also be helpful for you to identify what type of tag a customer has. You can also try picking up a Card Pack from the DT store. It will give a handful of the most common types of tags to play around and learn with. And of course, you will probably want stock of the common tags you can clone, which you can easily find on sites like Alibaba, AliExpress, Amazon, etc.
Based on the information provided, the most specific answer you can get is a round black rfid fob. If I had to make a blind guess (quite literally), I would say it’s either some variety of LF tag that could be cloned to a T5577 chip, or Mifare Classic 1k (requiring a magic chip to clone to). As others have mentioned, there is no way to tell without scanning the chip, or possibly by interacting with the reader. StarGazer gave some great advice, I would suggest following it before moving forward with your business.
