Where are your xG3s?

Thanks. All good. This was just a bonus if it happened. I will be still sure to use the magic wand thingy before touching any live wires, regardless sof what the magnet “feels”.

Good advice though!

Can confirm you cannot feel a hot wire that doesn’t have current actively utilized… Youch

While we’re on safety, keep an eye those are not super reliable … I’ve had them not read on multiple occasions … I do not work on any electrical systems without checking it with a physical contact volt meter.

For serious. Volt sticks are not accurate. That being said, they tend to give false positives (induced voltages from nearby AC flow) whereas using a magnet will give false negatives. In short, listening to a volt stick will keep you safe but may impede productivity while trusting your magnet for such things would be very dangerous.

Edit: I’ve never personally had a volt stick not register as hot when a wire is live. I always use Fluke products. YMMV.

That’s because the magnetic field depends on the current, not the voltage. And from what I’ve heard, you need quite a bit of current for a sensing magnet to be useful.

But still, if you know what to look for and what you can actually feel with the magnet, it can be a useful tool.

Thanks. I am beyond paranoid and make sure the bolt stick is working by checking when I know the circuit is on and then again when I know the main fuse for it has been turned off.

I also physically check with either a Meter or a lamp, again both before and afterward.

This is the way. Verify the meter works. Kill power and check again.

And it’s arrived. We have a new workplace health and safety officer, who is also a registered nurse, so I am hoping she will do the I stall today…

And she wouldn’t. I think I may have lost her when I asked if she could stab me  she was very intrigued but says she hasn’t given a needle to anyone in ten years.

So now I have to wait until Sunday. :disappointed:

And it is done. Fuck that hurt but nowhere near as much as I expected. The bandage pulling on the back of my hand hurts more!

Now one of you!

Also mate has suggested we need a “coin” which let you pick it up. Kind of penny for your thoughts type thing.

Damn I am happy today! Of you are thinking about a magnet can I just say do it!

a Cyborg Challenge Coin  Could be doable, 3d printed with a coin cell battery in it (which hopefully can be picked up by a xG3) to power LF/HF coil for blinkies.

This has actually been a project I’ve been working on for a bit…

I need to circle back with you on that, I have a few ideas I’d like to run by you

The circuit is complete, i even have a test run of boards coming back.

Ok. Having a few beers, so…

Has anyone installed a xG3 in the earlobe?

Any thoughts on doing so??

Closest I can think of is the Tragus

Biggest thread about it (there are others)

Here’s a removal

I hope you aren’t planning on doing drunk piercing ESPECIALLY the Tragus

I always do drunk piercing. Well two beers because no one has ever said “stick me with that” whilst sober…

I just make sure the installer is only one or two in…
