Yeah outside the body the glass is quite fragile. Body tissue plyability offer just enough give to protect the glass in vivo.

6 month update: Im happy with how good it looks considering how bad it could have gotten if I had choosen to try and keep it in.
The scarring is a result of all the skin dying where the needle went. It was pretty freaky, but it just reaffirmed my decision to cut my losses. I can’t recall taking pics of that stage in the healing process. I’ll take a look for them to satisfy the morbidly curious and serve as a cautionary tale for others.
In other news, I got the replacement installed in P0 of my left hand on the 19th (6 days ago) and I think a vein was nicked. Lucky me.
Maybe I should make another thread about that? I seem to have a pretty large blood blister in the adjacent area and would like to get some community feedback on that.
